Grandma's menudo is probably the best in Michigan! With its distinct Jalisco flavor, its broth warm, full of spices, and tender tripe, this bowl was the perfect food of choice for a stormy morning after camping. Furthermore, the quesabirria flavor was amplified when you dunk the taco into the homemade broth, whose concoction can be traced to an ancestral family recipe 2200 miles away. The chilaquiles also contain a red sauce, albeit not spicy, that stimulates every crevice of your mouth with a flavor that is hard to replicate unless you have the right ingredients and sazon. Although the only thing tropical about this place is a hand painted mural of a tucan, La Tropicana certainly feels warm and cozy with its family oriented service that contributes to Newaygo's food scene.

It was my first time dining at La Tropicana. I stopped in for a late lunch. This is an excellent family-run restaurant with authentic Mexican food. The ambience is homey and comfortable. The menu features a variety of dishes, including beef, chicken, seafood (primarily shrimp), and pork options. I had the chilaquiles with slightly spicy red sauce, as it was the only thing on the menu that might be vegetarian. They also offer them with spicy red sauce or green sauce. Like most other dishes, it came with rice and refried beans. My food was delicious! I look forward to stopping in again with my wife so she can try it.

This was our first visit here and it was lovely. We enjoyed the decor and maybe would've eaten in the cute porch area outside if it wasn't so hot and muggy out. The service was quick and our server was very friendly. The chorizo taco plate was yummy and very filling. My boyfriend had a very large and tasty burrito.

I have to be honest - super disappointed. My friend and I came in for lunch today. We have never been here, but saw the online reviews and were actually pretty excited. The customer service - candidly there was none. No one acknowledged our presence as we looked around, a bit confused on how the dine-in process works. After awkwardly standing in line by the cash register for several minutes, we grabbed a couple menus that were located on the side of the register. An eating customer advised us that we seat ourselves. No one ever came to our table. A buser or server (I'm not sure which) served people around us and even cleaned a booth directly behind us and said nothing to us. We had no idea if they took our order at the booth or if we had to go back up to the register and place an order. There was no signage to give direction. We felt almost unwelcome. We decided to grab a bite elsewhere. I hope they work this piece out. It looked like the food was amazing.

*Edit - owner addressed concern - so appreciated. I plan to revisit in the near future and would definitely revise my post based on...
