If I could give Roxy’s Hawaiian Restaurant more than 5 stars, I would—heck, I’d give it a whole galaxy. 🌺🌈🔥
From the moment I stepped through the doors of Roxy’s, I felt as though I’d been lovingly scooped up by a warm Pacific breeze and gently deposited onto a beach in Oahu, lei around my neck, ukulele in the background, and the mouthwatering scent of grilled perfection wafting through the air.
Let’s talk ambiance: The decor is a blissful symphony of island charm. Tiki torches (not lit—fire codes!), bamboo accents, surfboards on the wall, and the soft hum of Hawaiian reggae in the background make the whole place feel like a low-key luau with better air conditioning. Even the bathroom smelled like plumeria and dreams. I don’t know how they do it.
Now, the food. Oh, sweet tropical stars, the food.
I ordered the katsu chicken, and I wept. Not from spice, not from pain—no, from joy. That perfectly seasoned beef patty, nestled on a fluffy bed of rice, topped with a fried egg cooked to golden perfection and then drowned in a velvety, soul-hugging gravy… It was less of a dish and more of a life event. I called my mom afterward to tell her I loved her.
And the kalua pork? Let’s just say if smoky, tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork had a fan club, I would be its president. No knife needed. It basically looked at my fork and fell apart on its own. Magic.
Don’t even get me started on the spam musubi. I was skeptical—I’m not what you’d call a spam enthusiast—but now I am reborn. Roxy’s version is perfectly balanced: sweet, salty, sticky, and savory. Honestly, I would follow this spam musubi into heaven.
The staff? Angels in Hawaiian shirts. Every single person I encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. I asked one server for a recommendation and she waxed poetic about the chicken katsu like she was describing a long-lost love. I respected it.
🌺 10/10. Would eat here again, even if I had to swim across the...
Read moreI have never had Hawaiian food, so I can't really compare it to anything. I ordered the pineapple orange chicken, with sticky rice and fries. The flavor was good, although it was really lacking in sauce on the chicken. My wife had the Kailua pork with sticky rice and fried carrots. The pork was good, although also seemed to need sauce. The fried carrots were fantastic. The teriyaki sauce they use has good flavor, but is water thin (meaning it doesn't stick to anything). Service was fine- especially for how fast food has become. The young man working the register was pleasant enough- with this being a newly opened restaurant he probably gets the same questions about the menu a hundred times a day. There are also seems to be a lot more items available in the restaurant than what you can see online. Will we be back? Yeah, we will try it again, but probably not until the newness has worn off and they are a little more...
Read moreWelcome to Newberg, Roxy’s! My first visit, Sunday lunch rush, was a great experience. They told me it would be 10 mins and it was, exactly 10 mins. For their first week, they were fairly synchronized, just a bit awkward. But everyone was polite and well trained, doing their jobs. The food was outstanding. Especially the meats. I haven’t had kalbi that good since I left the islands 20 years ago. It was a bit tough, but it was in Hawaii too. The flavors were exactly as I remembered it. The teriyaki might have been slightly bland, needs a bit more flavor, but it was very good also. Wish the place had just a little more Hawaiian vibe— they said “thanks for coming in”… how about “Mahalo”, or “Aloha!” And better music choices. Haha. Overall, it was great. I’m looking forward to the app getting up and running so we can order in advance...
