Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Portland Newberg — Hotel in Newberg

First time laying eyes on this new property that just opened in April.

They built from the ground up and it's pretty stunning. It has an extremely upscale feel, the interior decor is very attractive both indoors and outdoors. The welcoming area next to the reception has fire elements and very comfortable chairs as well as a few decor pieces that echo elegance.

Doing some event planning I met with Laura and was appreciative that she and her team had a proposal ready to go for me and my team when we arrived for the site visit. Lora embodies an incredibly thoughtful approach to partnership. She was very easy to work with.

We got a view of the large exercise room that was very well ventilated, the outdoor patio area that had a fire element for every table and the outdoor pool that was sparkling clean and waiting for the first person to jump in. The bedrooms were beautiful and just the right cool temperature and the right lighting for someone to feel like they could walk in and be at ease immediately after a day of work.

This hotel is clean and new and has a very kind staff, but the rooms are quite small and not worth their rate. I am a Bonvoy member and try to only stay at Marriott brands when I travel, as I always have excellent experiences. This place is definitely the exception. The breakfast is terrible and there is a lot left to be desired. They have 1 waffle machine, the hot food items are not hot, the oatmeal is hard, the coffee was horrendous, and they lack options you would typically get from a similar Marriott brand where breakfast is included. They also need more attention to detail when it comes to restocking and cleaning the area. Since nothing can be done about the size of the rooms, I think the areas where there are missed opportunities are in room rates and breakfast. Newly opened in 2025, this hotel is a nice addition to the Newberg scene. There are many existing choices around Newberg from older more established hotels/motels and bed and breakfast, but the location in central Newberg makes it very convenient to wineries, shops and restaurants. The building is new and in perfect condition. In the evening, guest are offered one free glass of wine and can purchase refills. There is a nice heated pool and patio area. The staff is a mix of seasoned pros and newcomers so the service can have a few minor hiccups, but the attitude is all positive and eager to serve you.
