Captain D's — Restaurant in Newberry

UPDATED 5/12/25...Although service has improved some from previous review 4mos ago. My last visit I was given the wrong food, I called and the manager (very nice, should have gotten her name)said bring my receipt and they would give me the food I ordered. Next day took my receipt, another manager was there said she would only replace 1 meal not 2. Then blatantly TOLD me what I received the night b4. When my husband and I opened our food. Mind you eating on the hwy to our next job, no way to turn around. In the meal was chicken instead of fish. This manager TOLD me I received 1 fish and 1 chicken and it was more expensive than the fish and fries I ordered and she would only replace 1 meal not 2. I told her our meals had chicken. Her reply, we dont have a meal like that, and again TOLD me what I had gotten instead. I dont remember her being in my car with me otw to my next job. If she knew that I wasnt getting the order I wanted why give it to me. Maybe, just perhaps, the cook made a mistake or not a mistake that night. I didn't want just 1 meal when both meals were wrong and not what I ordered and the hush puppies were not cooked all the way, middle was raw. I walked out with nothing in hand. Capt D's you got me on that 1!! Needless to say the improvement they made makes no difference if you dont give the customer what they order and dont honor making it right. I love the fish at Capt D's, however, I won't waste my time or money at the Newberry location anymore. Good luck new management, word of mouth goes a long ways!!!!!! USE to visit this Newberry location weekly, NEVER AGAIN, dishonest and untrustworthy management!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I placed an online order for this location. It didn’t say weather or not I had to go in or go through drive through to receive my food so that was confusing. So I got there, tried to go in and the doors were locked. I figure maybe due to short staff or something, so understandable not a big deal. So I got in line. The service was an average pace, not fast but not overly slow. The lady was nice. Got my food and left. But then I got home, opened the food, the fried shrimp were a weird color. They were like a grayish brown, turns out they were mostly breading and barely any shrimp and the breading tasted undercooked. The coleslaw had no flavor and just wasn’t good. The fries tasted stale. The fish was okay, nothing amazing. Not crispy, kinda soggy. We had three plates of food and only received one tartar sauce. The only thing that tasted kind of good was the hush puppies. So yeah, I feel like I wasted my $30 and should’ve gone somewhere else or cooked dinner at home. I won’t be coming back here because the food just wasn’t good....

Please be careful eating here. I eat here on 9/15/022. Everyone was nice. I hadn't had Captain D's in a long time and was excited. I got the regular battered crispy fish and I took a bite and thought it was a little fishy so I tried another filet it was the same. Smelled fine. The person I was eating with took one bite and said, "I'm not eating that and you better not either." I picked at the crispy part had maybe two more bites of fish and gave it up because it just wasn't as good as I remembered. This was around 3 pm. By nine my stomach was cramping. I don't ever get cramps so I didn't realize until the next morning I had FISH POISONING. I was seriously I'll for two days. The third day kidney pain severely dehydrated. Here I am 6 days later and still having bouts of nausea. I should have listened to my friend. I've had food poisoning but fish poisoning is on another level.
