I went here last week with my boyfriend for date night. The food is great with good quality ingredients and freshly made. Plenty of it too! The prices are reasonable, you get what you pay for. We shared a bowl of the ahi chowder, I was surprised on how large the bowl was! Rich and creamy with plenty of fish. We also shared a bowl of steamed mussels that were meaty with lots of flavor! We were going to each have our own main dish but decided on sharing one since we were becoming full from the bottle of wine we had and the focaccia bread. We ended up ordering the lollipop lamb chops that were amazing! Our plates each came with 2 of the pops with a balsamic drizzle, mashed potatoes and spinach. We were quite surprised again with the portion. We did order them medium rare but they came out medium which was ok because they were still delicious. I wasn't able to finish mine because we wanted dessert and ordered another bottle of wine. 😊 But I made sure to pack it for a late night snack. 😏 We ordered the brownie, which was uhh.. Just a brownie but it was fine.. My boyfriend did have one complaint, that didn't bother me but whatever. There was a main break and all the patrons had to use the restroom next door at a bar/restaurant. It wasn't far so I was fine with it. All in all we had a nice dinner, good location with plenty of parking with attentive service. Our bill with tip was about $200. We do tend to leave a good tip since I'm in the hospitality business myself and like I said, "You get what you pay for". We will...
Read moreI really like Sol Grill. I had asked a local that I had met (as I usually do when I am out) to share his two favorite Restaurants in this area. I can see why he had this restaurant at the top of his list (remember that Sol Grill is a restaurant in an area with 50 other restaurants).
I arrived way to early as this special restaurant opens for dinner at 5 pm. I put my nose to the locked door and saw a young woman towards the back near the counter. She saw me at the same moment and to my surprise she immediately came to open the door. She graciously invited me in even though they wouldn't open for a few hours. She introduced me to her daughter and answered my every question while she continued to prepare for the customers that would be coming at 5. I felt very comfortable and look forward to my return to this special restaurant near the Newport Pier (very good location).
I spent 15 to 20 minutes there (I haven't eaten there yet but plan on returning for sure). The interior is decorated with a lot of nice paintings (NFS), making Sol Grill a bit like an small art gallery. I noticed a small piece of art on the back wall with her daughters name (I like that... a personal loving touch).
Yes, that is it... This restaurant has that "personal loving touch"! I think you will really like Sol Grill!

Read moreA nice little place near the New Port beach. It is not on the beach but in the square. Only few tables available. Since it is a small space , I do not recommend bringing small kids and they can be disturbance to other customers. The Staff were very nice.
My wife and I visited here with our 1 year old. There was a constant flow of customers coming in and out. We ordered the Kung Pao shrimp for appetizer. We were thinking the classic Chinese dish. But this was completely different. It was saucy, spicy and tangy. It tasted good but soon messed up my stomach. So BE CAREFUL ABOUT THIS ITEM.
For main course I ordered Cajun blackened Swordfish on a bed of rice and vegetables. It had a special salsa on top of it. Though the portion was really good, some portion of the fish was not fully cooked. It was because of the thickness of the fish stake. Also, the Cajun seasoning on top was burned so you only taste CARBON. NOT THE FLAVORFUL FISH.
My wife ordered chicken alfredo. The portion was really good and can be shared. But the sauce was too runny. She wish it was more creamy.
Based on observation it is a great place for couples or friends to hang out and slowly...
