Tonight was our first time visiting Catrina's here in Newton. We showed up around 6:30pm. We were not greeted once we entered the door and we ended up standing there waiting for 10mins before anyone did greet us. Once we were noticed we were told it would be about a 15-20min wait but we only ended up waiting maybe 5-10mins before being seated. We got seated and then were told they were out of clean silverware and would bring some once they had some cleaned. We ended up having to ask someone if they had any by time we got our food. Waitress was nice and friendly and she had a smile on her face every time we saw her. We ordered guacamole and it was more of a liquid thin type which wasn't the greatest and was 8.99. When we were ordering the waitress informed us that they were also out of shrimp. My husband ordered the Grilled Chicken. It was a thin piece of butterfly chicken & came with rice. He said it was good. I ordered the Quesadilla Degollado. It turned out really good & stuffed full of steak. One of our kids ordered a chicken quesadilla with rice and he said it was good. Our other kid ordered 2 tostadas and a side of rice. He said they were good. My mother-in-law ordered the Carnitas. She said it was good but a very small portion for the price they charge. The salsa tasted different but it was good & hot/fresh corn chips. After getting our ticket it was a lot more...
Read moreIn Newton, this would be the last place I would go for Mexican food. Upon entering, we were seated promptly and brought chips and salsa. We sat there for 10 min with no offer for drinks or appetizers. Finally, a server noticed we didn't have our drinks as our menus had been placed on the edge of the table, showing we were ready to place our orders. Even as our drink orders were placed, I had to let them know we were ready to order as well. One gentleman who was working was friendly. The rest of the front house staff was not nearly as pleasant. We ordered Street Tacos and Nachos Supreme. The tacos were less than filled. No lime garnish. I ordered one fish, one barria, and one shrimp. The flavor of the fish was excellent. It's not worth $10.00. The nachos were soggy. Under the chips, the plate was filled with a watery substance that looked like water but tasted like beans. I will most likely...
Read moreWe ordered the Pollo Felez, which the menu online shows as $11.99. We ordered two, and a cup of white queso, which the menu shows as 4.99. Somehow, our total came to $46 with tax! My husband clarified several times what was ordered, and we received exactly what we wanted. We were unable to get an itemized receipt to see what was up, and we did not leave a tip. It was good food, and my husband said the staff taking his order were friendly. The inside seemed very, very nice. All that said, $46 for two dishes and queso, when the posted menu states otherwise, was way too much. Especially, for what we received. This wasn't steak, this wasn't a large dish, just some shredded chicken, rice and beans. Very disappointing that we were charged so much without any transparency as to why, so we probably...
