I was promptly greeted and Jake took my family's order. He asked us to find a table and told us someone would bring the order to the table. The restaurant was clean with a good lunch crowd for a Sunday. The noise level was OK. The seating area in the rear of the store was very attractive indeed. The restaurant is handicapped accessible, though one of the three bathrooms has a step to enter. Some of tables did need to be wiped down from previous parties, however. The bathrooms were clean.
The falafel was fried to order, it isn't sitting around waiting to be reheated. The latter being a big no-no for any fried food.
Our food arrived in a very reasonable amount of time. We had a falafel & hummous plate, a spicy falafel roll up, and curly french fries. The portions were very generous.
The falafel was hot and crispy on the outside. They had lots of flavor with a healthy chickpea to stuffing ratio. The fillings were mostly excellent, pickles, carrots, a very nice hot sauce with a kick, and tahini sauce. The only downside was the use of iceberg lettuce and very thin American pita that lost integrity in the middle of the meal. It's a testament to the quality of the falafel and fillings that despite those short comings I really enjoyed the falafel wrap. My preference is for thicker Israeli type pita and shredded cabbage in my falafel.
The falafel plate was similar, though not constructed into a sandwich. The hummous was alright, though I prefer a more creamy style of hummous. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the falafel plates.
The fries were pipping hot and delivered with a bottle of ketchup.
Jake checked back on the table to make sure we were satisfied. Bear in mind we were sitting in the back of the store well away from the counter. I liked his attention to his customers.
I really enjoyed it, would visit again, and would recommend it to my friends.
-- I should note this review is a composite of a couple visits. There was strong consistency in customer service and food quality on...
Read moreWas making a delivery to Roche Autobody and inquired about Jake's. On their recommendation alone, I went there and ordered a falafel wrap. I was not disappointed, for it was one of the best Mediterranean-style falafel sandwiches I've had, period. Not only did I get about a pound and a half of sandwich but, (and for a mere $8 that's nothing to sneeze at!) my meal was excellent; the falafel was still moist, the veggies were fresh and crisp, and the entire wrap wasn't drippy at all despite the multiple sauces added (tahini, hot sauce, etc). The building presents a TARDIS-like exterior, meaning the inside seems bigger than the outside. Inside, a traditional sandwich-shop-style counter dominates the front end but deeper within the building there are plenty of tables for dining in. Every employee I interacted with was intelligent, cheerful, and helpfully informative. Whenever I'm in the area I will definitely...
Read moreJake's recipes are great, delicious and relatively cheap. With these prices it is the best healthy food restaurant around Newton Center. The tables in the back of the restaurant are not very elegant. So it is not a very elegant place for parties. On the other hand for a quick lunch or a catering for largw events Make offers special menus and cheaper prices. He is also a very kind and welcoming host. I really lije the way he receives people. He has special Halal and Kosher, vegan and vegetarian, glutton free menu. I recommend everyone to try their food once especially Falafel and Persian Cutlets (kotlet). The latter is particularly my favourite. It is juicy...
