And the new cake winner is...sisters Valeria (pastry chef) & Valentina (cake artist), owners of Luna's Cakes & Coffee in Newton Center, New residents of the former Starbucks at the corner of Beacon & Centre Sts.

These sisters and their products are unmatched. They were eager to spend time with me discussing their take-out and custom cake offerings. When I asked for them to describe their typical frosting-to-cake ratio, they showed me their "personal size" BRIGADEIRO in the to-go display counter. Unlike many (most) Baker's who make cakes with too little frosting (in my estimation), the cakes by Valeria & Valentina have a more generous (much more generous) frosting-to-cake ratio. And if that doesn't meet your personal preference, the sisters are happy to make custom adjustments (more OR less frosting). We've ordered two custom, golden cakes with (extra) vanilla frosting, and both were consistently, reliably, uniquely delicious. I can't wait to order a true, dark chocolate custom cake for my wife's birthday. You can't find such a cake anywhere in the greater Boston area. Went in for the first time yesterday. If you had been to the Starbucks that was here a zillion times like I had, it's effectively the same space - brightened-up. They're new - still training folks and whatnot.

Got 1. a pumpkin whoopie pie that was truly to die for - just exceptional; 2. A chocolate whoopie pie that had the same lovely creme in it, but the cake was dry and not impressive; 3. A little chocolate ball thing with chocolate sprinkles whose name I can't remember that was decadent; and 4. A slice of orange cake, which was quite distinctive and tasty, but didn't blow me away.

I'll check Luna's out again for sure - I totally get the "settlling-in" challenges. Kudos to them for opening crawling distance from Salt! Great to have options - bring...

Omgggg this place is my new obsession! The owners are so nice and welcoming and the pasteries are some of the best I’ve ever had. They turned the old Starbucks location into something to cute and girly I love it. I also ordered some cupcakes for a Halloween party and the carrot cake ones were so moist and flavorful and the decorations were adorable. If you like cool unique lattes with cool syrups they...
