Newtown Deli — Restaurant in Newtown

I have been coming to Newtown Deli for many years. Hundreds of times. The food is always fresh and delicious. The variety of foods is astounding. So many choices and each is great. Good old American food, Spanish food. Sandwiches and hot plates of food plentiful and delicious always. The owners are there to greet you each time you go in and the staff is exceptional always . Hundreds of times I’ve been here and never once a not optimal experience. My hats off to this great food establishment that we have in our beautiful town of Newtown, CT. Quite disappointed with my first experience which will make it my last. I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 star because originally the sandwiches were reasonably priced. Unfortunately Newtown deli has a hidden breakfast fee that is not listed anywhere on their menus, paper or online, or posted anywhere in their store. The cashier doesn’t mention it either, she just charges you. $1 extra, per sandwich, for a breakfast sandwich ordered after 11am. I have not experienced this anywhere else before and my main concern is it being a hidden fee. When I asked about it, the cashier just told me oh well, that’s what they charged. Rude response. Every now and then I get a craving for a chicken cutlet sandwich. I have a deli less than a mile from my house, very well known one. But I always forget their cutlet is not good - very grissel-ey and just, yuck.

This time I did not forget and tried something new to me. And boy oh boy was it delicious! I ordered online, switched to provolone, add mayo and waffle fries. Chicken was crispy and hot, and fries were perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft inside. Staff was very kind, as they should be. Pricing was typical, but better than other places. And they got the whole online order correct!...
