A Niceville restaurant was closed after high priority violations were found by state health inspectors.
Cafe Bienville (777 John Sims Parkway), was cited for 14 total high priority, intermediate and basic violations during a routine visit by state inspectors on Dec. 4, The restaurant was able to re-open later in the day on Dec. 4 after meeting inspection standards.
One high priority violation came from approximately 40 rodent droppings found under the counter on the floor beneath the soda station and the cash register.
Another high-priority violation came from having a toxic substance or chemical stored by food after inspectors found a sanitizer bucket on a table used for food prep.
Two of the restaurant’s high priority violations came from an employee who handled soiled dishes or utensils then handled clean dishes or utensils without washing hands in between.
The report also said an employee touched a bare body part and then engaged in food preparation and handling of clean equipment and utensils. The employee then touched their face and hat with bare hands and proceeded to prepare food.

Read moreBest beignets in the gulf coast! My girlfriend and I are visiting for Christmas, and had them the day before they closed for the holidays. Unfortunately she was instantly hooked, and Cafe Bienville was closed for the next few days. So all she could talk about was getting more beignets. She was insatiable, not even Christmas gifts could appease her. Today we finally got our fix, and thought a poem would be appropriate to express our feelings:
There once was a lady, a true culinary queen Whose passion for pastry was never unseen She'd visit Cafe Bienville with such glee For there, the most delectable beignets could be found, you see
She'd speak of their texture, light as air Sprinkled with sugar, a culinary affair The aroma, oh how it would make her swoon She simply couldn't resist their allure, so true
Her friends would often join her at the cafe To share in her joy, her love to savor For a beignet from Cafe Bienville, there is no compare A culinary masterpiece, beyond compare
So if you ever find yourself at Cafe Bienville's door Do not hesitate, try a beignet, that's for sure You'll see the lady there, with a smile on her face Indulging in her love, a true...

If you think the high price assures a great sandwich plate, think again. All is a la carte. Soup Is well prepared, seasoning is lite and broth is clear. All good signs of a good soup. Taste is wanting, however if you try the Gumbo you will find so much File' that it is pungent and nasty tasting. Salads are not developed, but have good components. Basically a pile on a plate. Avoid the Duck Confit, it is over cooked and the consistency of Brillo. Duck is difficult to cook, and hold. Not in their wheelhouse. Beignets are elastic in the center due to overworked dough. Bring your good teeth. Service is friendly and happy. If going for a Garden City cafe, chicory coffee and beignets are best when pared together. French Quarter chicory coffee is not offered. We expected more, and see too much to be improved. Very expensive and not...
