There was 3 in our party and from the get go I had a feeling this restaurant was going to be a disaster. We were seated next to a door coming in from the outside and a male server with a very aggravated look came in carrying a tray of dishes and dropped them right at our table. All the servers were running around like it was opening day and they never did a soft opening. Jeb our server came over and took our drinks order. When he came with those we gave him our food order and the wait began. We ordered a shrimp basket, oyster basket and bacon wrapped shrimp. We didn't complicate anything, just ordered as it is on the menu. We were setting there for about 45 minutes so we decided to order hush puppies. They came out cold. In the meantime Jeb refilled our drinks and was going to get us some HOT HUSH PUPPIES. Now we're at about an hour and fifteen minutes and still no food. Close to an hour and thirty minutes our food comes out along with more COLD HUSH PUPPIES. The oyster and shrimp baskets were greasy and warm but at this point we knew we were not going to get anything better so we took napkins and tried to absorb some of the grease and make them edible. I asked for cocktails sauce and I got a little container of ketchup. I could go on how bad the food is but I think y'all get it. Jeb and all the employees working the floor were flustered. I asked him about it and he said the management was doing something with the system in the middle of lunch. Having been in the restaurant business as long as I was management should know you never mess with your system during operating hours. You only do that at night when you close so if something goes wrong you have all night to fix it. My late husband and our IT guy spent many a night at our restaurants so customer service was never affected. I will say a manager never came to our table to apologize, we were not offered a discount, or a gift card to entice to come back for another visit. Restaurants need to get back to hospitality. Not only that when I was presented with the bill they want you to pay for using a credit card. If I'm going to pay a local restaurant in Niceville to use my credit card I'm going to go Destin and enjoy the beach view which is exactly what my out of town guests and I have been...
Read moreWent here on a recommendation of a co-worker, so I really didn't know what to expect. In the past, I have found such recommendations lacking. Man was I surprised. This place was great! We were there mid-afternoon so it wasn't packed, but it was quiet and the view was very nice on the water. But oh man, the food was over the top! One of the gauges we use at a seafood restaurant is crab claws. Yep that's right, them little morsels of goodness. Very few places get it right, and while on our list these were the second best ever, they were the best we've ever eaten in Florida. They can easily be over cooked, poorly seasoned, or just plain bad. NOT HERE, they well prepared and the seasoning did not take away from the delicate flavor of the crab. The rest of the food continued to exceed expectations. My son had soft shell crab sandwich. My wife had tacos, one fish and one Asian chicken. While I had the Bayou Que pulled pork. The bbq was very well done, very moist and tender with just the hint of smoke. It wasn't drowning in sauce, just enough for flavor and allowed the pit time to come through. While I didn't taste the other two entrees on the table I will say this. Once the food hit the table there was no talking, no playing with phones, just serious chewing with the more than occasional "umm" or "oh man" uttered. The service was just a little slow at first, but our server, Justin, I think his name was (I am terminally bad with names) was working a larger party. He apologized and was on us, attending to our needs and desires. He took the most excellent care of us and did a job that an employer would take extreme pride in the way he represented their business. I wish it was closer, we live an hour away. I just I could give it one extra star. Like my wife said on the way home, now it sucks we have found such a great place to eat so far away from home. Yes we...
Read moreDisappointing Tacos and Fries: Overpriced and Underwhelming
I recently had the unfortunate experience of trying the tacos and fries at Wharf 850 establishment, and I must say it was a complete letdown. For the hefty price of $22, I expected nothing short of an exceptional culinary delight. Unfortunately, what I received were saggy, unappetizing tacos that were an insult to both my taste buds and my wallet.
Let's start with the tacos themselves. They were supposed to be the highlight of the meal, but instead, they were a sad mess. The shrimp tacos were the biggest disappointment of all. Promised to be lightly breaded, they were drowning in an excessive amount of batter, overshadowing the few shrimp that were hidden within. It was a stark contrast to what I had anticipated.
Accompanying these subpar tacos were the fries, which were equally lackluster. Instead of golden, crispy fries, I received a greasy, limp mess that left my hands feeling oily and my taste buds unsatisfied. It seemed as though they had been sitting in a pool of oil for far too long, resulting in a greasy coating that was far from appetizing.
What frustrated me the most about this experience was the glaring disparity between the quality of the food and its exorbitant price. At $22, I expected a meal that would exceed my expectations and leave me feeling satisfied. Instead, I was left feeling cheated and dissatisfied. The lack of value for money was evident in every bite.
Overall, I cannot recommend this establishment's tacos and fries to anyone seeking a flavorful and satisfying meal. The saggy, overpriced tacos and greasy, limp fries were a far cry from what was promised. The quality simply did not match the price, leaving me feeling disappointed and disillusioned. Save your money and seek out a more deserving eatery that values both...
