Barrel 17 — Restaurant in Norfolk

This place is a great burger spot. Went here last night for my birthday because I wanted to try something new and wanted a burger. I was told about this place by a friend and said sweet, let's give it a shot.

I ordered the Hawaiian burger and it was amazing. Loved it so much and I would get it again. My daughter got the kids Mac-n-cheese with tater tots and she loved it. OH and the sweet potato fries with the dipping sauce they offer? AWESOME. Highly recommend.

My wife did a build your own burger and she loved it as well. No complaints, and she's a highlighter of issues for sure!

We ordered the lumpia as well (my wife is Filipina, so we had to try it!) and we liked them. They aren't as great as homemade (are they ever?) and they were a bit heavier on the meat side, but we ate them and enjoyed them nonetheless. The fried pickles and fried pimento cheese were so freaking good it was incredible.

We went on a Thursday, and it was totally open. The atmosphere was great, and Katie was doing a great job despite working several doubles. Shout out to her.

The old fashioned I had was well made with a good balance of alcohol and simple syrup.

Overall, I am well pleased.

The four stars for service does not reflect on Katie, but when the gentleman came out with our food, he asked us, "Did you all order food?" We laughed about it, but I think a bit more training on the conversational service would be great. Quick, easy fix, and it's not something I'd say is a complaint but just trying to highlight an opportunity.

Welcome to Ghent B17!! Great energy & service this Friday. Had the delicious MEATBALLS & FRIED MOZZARELLA DISCS with wagyu beef meatballs. The fried cheese was perfect and the meat sauce had a great flavor, so I'm now looking forward to trying the Meatball Sub on my next visit! For this visit, also had the FRIED FLOUNDER SANDWICH with Cole slaw & lemon aoili - this provided a generous portion of fish, but was slightly overcooked for my liking which made the crust shell a bit too crunchy (easy fix for next time!) The fried onions were good! Guests enjoyed their burgers: SHROOM BURGER with brioche/wagyu beef/mushrooms/fried onion straws swiss cheese/house-made spicy brown aioli (ordered medium & served medium 😋) ...TASTY! And the CAPRESE BURGER with brioche/wagyu beef/mozzarella/basil tomato/mixed greens/balsamic glaze! Very good! The MAC & CHEESE side was a hit, as was the BRUSSEL SPOUTS! COCKTAILS - PERFECT!!!

I visited Barrel 17 Norfolk for lunch and I was very happy with how it turned out. I can’t always find places that offer good options for those of us who don’t eat land animal, so I’m excited to go back and try the other options for people like me.

This time my favorite was the Brussels sprouts appetizer! I ate it as part of my meal but the portion size was perfect and the texture wasn’t overly crunchy or soft just how I like mine.

I also had the grilled cheese and tomato with onion rings. I like to toast my bread a little differently but it was still not a disappointment and if you like the thick breaded onion rings, these are for you.

The owner and staff were very friendly and fortunately I went before they get too busy and have little time to build rapport. Looking forward to trying the black bean burger and other items next! Try it out a couple times and add it to your list of Norfolk spots...
