Boil Bay Seafood City — Restaurant in Norfolk

The menu offered a decent variety of types of seafood with options of type seasoning and spice levels. I opted for combo "c" that included 1 lbs of snow crabs and two other items. I added clam chowder and steamed rice.

The clam chowder was runny and void of much clams. After several years living in New England I may be picker than most, but it was fair at best. Didn't expect everything to be served in disposable containers either. Rice is rice, but it tasted like boil in a bag rice. Also, don't like eating with plastic utensils when paying so much for food.

The seafood was served in a double plastic bag on a metal tray. Had to ask for seafood crackers to open crab legs. I ordered their sauce in mild, and food had little flavour on my food. I ordered double shrimp with my crab legs, but felt there was less than half a pound. It included two nibblets of corn on the cob, red potatoes and sausage you typically find in most boils. I didn't eat any of the potatoes, corn or sausage. Had to ask for condiments, and while sitting close to server area, everything took so long to appear.

The venue is large, and I see the potential, and maybe next time I should get spicy, or ask for additional seasoning on the side. Service was decent, but I wouldn't say good because we had to repeat request for the condiments we requested when we ordered. (Melted butter, old bay seasoning, lemon, and one of our sides)

If I should return, I will be more diligent in being specific about what I want how, but it will be a while...

People are sleeping on this place! It's got the best food and service! I went in the beginning of November 2020 and was fortunate enough to be greeted by the Assistant General Manager. I should've written about this place right away because it's awesome! The AGM told me all about the restaurant and what sauce to order. He shared that they're opening another location in Henrico and Suffolk if memory serves. They also have a huge outlet for entertainment. I ordered the Boil Bay bag with mussels, lobster tails, shrimp and smoked sausage and took his recommendation of the house seasoning. It was so good and huge portions. I enjoy having a doggy bag just for me! They offer shrimp with the heads on or off...I chose the ones without. They also offer 2 types of mussels as well...black mussels or New Zealand Green Mussels. I ordered the ones from New Zealand...they were large and delicious! The Boil Bay seasoning is perfect and makes your mouth water with happiness! I didn't realize just how delicious it was until I ordered the same thing at the new Pier 88 on Sam's Drive in Chesapeake. Boil Bay was the best by far...bigger mussels and I got 2 lobster tails at Boil Bay. I'd recommend this place to anyone and I can hardly wait to go back again and again. When I was told it was where the MP Island Cafe used to be I was mislead...it's the place a couple doors down that was once a buffet style restaurant. ...

Came here for my grandson birthday party, service was horrible we arrived on time got seated and did not get a waitress til around 4:30, I guess do to the shortage on waiters that this happen…the waitress that had our section should have had someone assisting in taken the orders.. I requested a to-go order and I had to wait until t was brought out with the other orders, when I asked the young lady to give me ticket she made me wait until she got the tickets for all the orders in which it was a party of about 20 people. Also I attempted to get a drink at the bar while I was waiting and I was told that I couldn’t order a drink I had to order it with the waitress, I told the bartender that I will pay cash to her she told me that was the policy….. requested to speak with the manger because this seemed crazy to me that I can’t pay and cash out with the bartender? That policy needs to change when the waitresses has no other team member working with them!!! This was a horrible experience! Also there where lot of Asians walking around not helping out on the floor, I know they are part of the ownership but that does not exclude them from helping out like I see at the seafood owned Asian places like: Juicy Crab and Red Claw where they help! Will not be back and anyone going be ready for a long wait if you are coming with a large...
