The D 'egg Diner is located in the heart of Norfolk. I think the Main St. Garage is one of the closer garages for parking. I was in Norfolk for a week for some new job trainings, so I decided to try some local places during my lunch breaks. My visit here was on September 24, 2024.
When looking for places to try out, I wanted to seek out places where I could get something without spiking my glucose levels as I have been in diabetic remission for over a year. When I came in, a host was at the door and I asked for a menu, as I would have the food to-go instead of dining in. After taking some time to review the menu and options, I decided to go with an omelet with four ingredients. I went with pepper jack cheese, bacon, green peppers and onions with salsa as the side and a biscuit for the bread item.
After about 10 minutes or so, the food was ready. I did make the payment in cash. There is an additional 3% service fee if you use a credit or debit card. I then headed back to the building where the training I was attending was located. There's a break room there where I was able to have lunch.
Once I got back to the break room, it was time to indulge in a lunch. Everything was still hot when I got there too. The food was very good and was cooked the right way as well. It was a filling meal.
Overall, my experience here with the staff and food were very good. If I have to come back over to Norfolk in the future for any trainings, I would stop back in here again. This place is worth...
Read moreMy reviews is based on a delivery. I ordered avocado toast breakfast. I added a bacon breakfast. Which is a side of bacon. I ordered thru Grubhub. This restaurant was high on the list of breakfast places. My order came in a timely fashion. But I noticed the box was light. My order did not come with Eggs which is part of the meal and they left off the side of bacon. I called immediately. I spoke with Karen P. She said oh yeah your bacon is right here, Sorry. I told her I did not receive my eggs either. She said that was my fault. She said I did not choose how I wanted them so she left them off. Well I responded they did not ask how I wanted them so I thought I would get the default eggs. She preceded to tell me that I should have known to now order GrubHub. I asked how. And if you did not want that service why are on the site. I also I asked why???? Did they prepared my order. I think that made her mad cause she started yelling at me. I hung up and attempted to contact GrubHub..... No luck there. The diner called back and told me to place a second order or she would just send me eggs and bacon. I told her I did not order eggs and bacon I ordered Avocado toast with a side of bacon. I want my complete order. The order I paid for. And I was not paying another service fee or tip. I already paid that. so Degg and Grubhub together will never receive my money again. Thanks Karen P for your stellar customer service. I especially like how its my fault and you...
Read moreMy complaint is the automatically included 18% tip. I’m not one to quibble, and pretty much always leave 20% unless wait staff calls me a bad name, and even then, who knows what they have going on. But…I sat at the counter and had Classic Eggs Benedict ($12), coffee ($3), and a large fresh squeezed orange juice (??). Waitress was certainly nice and competent, when I was done she courteously put the bill on the counter and said no hurry. I put my credit card on the counter without looking at the bill, and she returned with a charge of $32. Even accounting for tax and the extra charge they disclose for credit card payment, that seemed pretty high. I know the large fresh squeezed OJ is expensive, but it’s awesome and well worth it, but I didn’t think it was THAT expensive. The charge slip didn’t have the itemized breakout, but after the subtotal, there was a space for “additional tip.” So I asked the waitress if there was tip already included and she said yes, 18%. I note on the menu it says tip added for group of 6 or more.
I think if their policy is now tip is always added they should communicate that (sign, menu note, waitress comment). If it’s not the policy, and this waitress sized me up as a bad tipper and tacked it on, not cool. I’ll do some experimenting with different appearances and...
