My family and I were excited to visit Napoli's because we love Italian food and the reviews for this restaurant were good. When we got there and sat down the table we were placed at was in horrible condition, tablecloth had holes in it and the tabletop was tilted making it uncomfortable to sit at. The waitress handed us two kids menus and two adult menus (we have a 4yo and 1.5yo). The kids menus were tattered and in disgusting condition, as well as having multiple spelling errors on the food options (fettuccini Alfredo was spelled futtucccini Alfredo) making it seem like they don't pay attention to detail and are unprofessional. We ordered our drinks and the waitress brought both our 4 year old and 1.5 year old their drinks in adult sized glasses with no lids. We didn't question it but thought it was odd they wouldn't bring kid sized cups with lids on them. So we continue on to ordering our food. I ordered a tossed salad and my husband ordered a "spaghetti works" with meat balls and sausage. We asked about the portion sizes, to which she replied they were very large. When we got our food, my salad literally had lettuce and a 1/4 tomato. There was no cheese, no croutons or crackers, no cucumbers, nothing. My husbands food came on a normal sized plate, not overly big portion at all.. okay...So I asked her if I could have some shredded cheese and croutons or crackers, whichever they had. She came back a few seconds later stating that the croutons would be extra. I said okaaay... sure I still want them. So she brings me two small containers, one with FETA cheese,(??? Uhh I asked for shredded. You don't have shredded cheese?) and one with croutons. Little did I know when we got the check that she would charge $1.75 extra for the croutons, and $1.50 extra for the cheese. So the price of my tossed salad DOUBLED in price for ingredients that should have already came on the salad to begin with. The spaghetti was okay, definitely nothing special. Honestly I regret going here. If we ever go through and want spaghetti and salad again we will settle for Pizza Hut's Italian over this joke of...
Read moreIn comparison to other locally-owned Italian restaurants I’ve been to around the country, Napoli’s is slightly below average. The service was only okay, the spinach artichoke dip was good, but then the main course was terrible. I don’t remember what I ordered (this speaks volumes all on its own), but it was supposed to have shrimp and scallops, and it had literally three. Three. For $20. The sauce wasn’t well thought-out or executed; it was too high in sodium to try to flavour it up with table salt, and there was a bad clash of canned tomato paste with too much in the way of mushrooms; this desperately needed some additional flavours added, like garlic at the very least. It would have helped a lot to have used far less of the tomato-based cream sauce and fleshed out the dish with the same Alfredo-like base that the spinach and artichoke dip had. Adding spinach and even bacon wouldn’t have been unwelcome and would have made up for the paltry amount of shrimp and scallops that were in this seafood dish. The bread was delicious, but they don’t have an option to order extra bread, and the amount they provided with the appetiser was small to the point of being difficult to share, and spending $30-plus just to have good bread is an absurd proposition.
I don’t often recommend going to a chain restaurant over a local restaurant, but in the case of Napoli’s, I would urge you to just bite the bullet and drive an hour to Olive Garden. I know that’s what I’ll be doing the next time I’m in the area and want Italian food, especially if I’m in the mood for something like seafood Alfredo; I understand that shrimp and scallops are more expensive for smaller restaurants, but don’t offer a dish if you can’t offer quality. I’m very unlikely to ever return to Napoli’s, alone or with family/friends. It would be insulting to expect others to pay Olive Garden-plus pricing for food that is not of...
