Since living in Mexico for several years, I have been searching for a genuine Mexican street taco experience here in Norman. Taqueria San Tadeo provides that. It is an older food truck trailer parked in an emptied parking lot in the heart of downtown Norman. Nearby is a small building with some tables and chairs. You must know that there is no wait staff really, if you want anything you must get it yourself from the trailer. That being said, the operators are more than happy to help them if they can.
They serve a nice selection of different tacos, gorditas, tortas, and other authentic Mexican street food fares. Personally I usually stick to the tacos. So many places in the United States offer sub-par excuses for street tacos, but theirs are on point. So far I have sampled the carnitas, lengua, al pastor, and barbacoa tacos. Hands down the pork canitas wins on flavor. The barbacoa were nice too but a bit too greasey even for street tacos. Still all the tacos I have sampled were fresh, delicious, and authentic. You can get some Mexican sodas there as well. It was nice to find they served Sidral Mundet soda. Sidral makes a decent apple soda. I would have preferred an apple Joya but when stateside I will take what I can get.
This is a great little taco stand and I hope it sticks around. Everything is super affordable and they even just sell the cooked meat alone so you can take it home to feed a larger group. It would be nice if they had some outside seating though. I hope you stop by and...
Read moreUpdate: They have since improved their dining area and am pleased to see them making improvements over time. There are booths to sit in, instead of wood picnic tables, the walls have been painted, they changed their heating source for the dining area so there are no fumes from the kerosene heater, etc.
Their tacos are without a doubt, the best tacos I've had in all of OK (yes, I've eaten at Tor...s). They offer the ingredients in large quantities to make your tacos at home and you can even buy a large quantity of just the taco meat. Don't forget about the salsas; verde is my favorite. The prices are great as well and makes for a very affordable lunch. For me, three tacos is just right, the fourth is delicious, but too much if going back to the office.
Don't forget, it's cash only and you pay after your meal. Always great service and will go back every...
Read moreI’ve been to this taco spot a few times now, and my experience has been a bit mixed. The very first time I tried their tacos, I absolutely loved them — flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. That’s what kept me coming back.
Unfortunately, by my third visit, the carne asada (steak) tacos were a letdown. The meat was noticeably bland, lacking the seasoning and bold flavor I enjoyed before. On top of that, it was dry and tough, making it harder to chew and not nearly as enjoyable. It didn’t have that fresh, tender quality you’d expect from a good taco.
I still really like this place overall and think they have potential, but the inconsistency in the quality of the meat is disappointing. If they can make their steak tacos consistently flavorful and tender, this spot would easily be one of...
