My Unsisterly Dining Experience at Sisters Thai in Potomac, MD
On March 16, I had dinner at Sisters Thai with a girlfriend. It was my third time dining at the restaurant, and perhaps her fifth in 2023. I love Thai cuisine! I had a cocktail. We shared the garden spring rolls. I ordered the Pottery Shrimp. She had Sisters Fried Rice. Our dinner was delicious.
Near the end of the meal, one of the servers encouraged us to complete our order because the restaurant was closing early. I ordered a desert waffle. It came promptly. A few minutes later, the bartender/server brought the check folder. She placed it between water glasses on the small circular table. We continued to talk since there were three tables of patrons finishing their meals. They had been seated after us.
It was at this point our restaurant experience took a turn for the worst. The bartender returned. She reached over us, picked up the check folder and slapped it down so hard it made a noise. She, then opened it, glanced down at us impatiently and scurried away.
Perplexed, we stared at each other nervously, wondering why she was being so rude. Minutes later she came back, snatched up the folder and stormed away to the register. When she realized it did not contain payment, she hurried back to our table and insisted a payment form be provided.
I informed her I would be using Apple Pay. She barked at me to follow her, walking briskly to the register, approximately twenty feet away. In consideration of my safe space, I chose not to follow due to the deterioration of her demeanor. I thought it best to keep my distance. Unfortunately, she stood at the register, glaring at me.
I raised my hand to signal another restaurant employee, who was walking by our table. I informed her of the bartender’s ill-treatment, which was seemingly focused on rushing our departure, while others around us continued to dine. She apologized and summoned the bartender over to do the same. Candidly, the apology seemed halfhearted and insincere, as it was a direct result of being prompted.
I was requested to “please” go to the register. I followed. Unfortunately, an accommodation to the check was not offered in consideration of a very unpleasant and most unsisterly dining experience. I quickly paid the bill and left. I did not leave a tip.
I am a 68 year old African American woman who dines out often. Luckily, I have never been treated with such discourtesy and disrespect before by a restaurant server. I will not forget my experience at Sisters...
Read moreI thought I should write this review. I’ve been to this place a number of times because their food hit the spot. On one fine summer afternoon, I was 8 months pregnant, craved for something sweet. I ordered take out 2 desserts from here. I came and picked up the dessert I ordered, paid for it. I, then asked if we (my husband and I +2 kids) can be seated because I was craving for more food (again, pregnant). They had maybe 6-7 other tables dining. We were seated, I opened my dessert at the table, asked for menus and utensils. We were ignored for a good amount of time. Again, pregnant with children, summer sitting outside) They brought utensils out and threw it on the table. We asked for the menus again, wasn’t brought to us for a while. We ordered MORE food, they all came and still had no water, the kids were thirsty while they’re eating. Like why am I being treated like a criminal. Ohhhh you guys have to keep reading. All said and done, we ate all our food and the dessert, cravings were satisfied for the moment. Asked for the check and one of the girls brought us the check and said “Next time, don’t do that again”. Like mom, what did I do? Ordered carry out, paid for it but wanted to eat more? I’ve seen rude staff here before but not this rude! Was I being discredited against because I was pregnant? That ruined the taste in my mouth and my husband’s. The girl was visibly rude, pretentious and served with ugly attitudes. Like have a heart, be respectful, love your job. If you hate being there so much, then go work somewhere else. But like learn how to be kind first, won’t costs you a penny. Maybe it’ll earn you more tips!!! I’ll take my money and my cravings to Bangkok Garden, they have bomb drinks...
Read moreTruly one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had today. My wife ordered lunch takeout for us and asked for “spicy Thai fried rice” and specifically said “I don’t know what it’s called” because there are two menu items that sound very similar (kapow vs kaprow). The ‘manager’ (I use that title very loosely) on the phone taking the order, Patty, specifically said “ kaprow fried rice, yes.” When we got home with the order, we saw it was the wrong order—literally just a fried rice that she modified on the ticket as “spicy.” Not a big deal right? Just call, let them know, and get the food you ordered, especially when you spent $45 on just two lunch dishes. Typically the restaurant and store will want to make it right for the customer. Not so at Sisters Thai in Cabin John. Patty argued with me over the phone and blamed us for ordering the wrong item. When I tried to explain what happened, she very rudely and arrogantly raised her voice and started talking over me. She insisted that she put the order in the way we ordered it and that there was no possible way she could have made an error. So much for “the customer is always right.” We live nearby and frequently order from Sisters in Potomac/Cabin John. I just brought the food back to Patty, got a refund, and went over to Chopt where my business is more appreciated. Personally, my family and I will never patron Sisters again. Judging from the other reviews, it looks like my experience with rude and impolite staff was not unique. I don’t recommend Sisters Thai. Check out one of the many other food options instead,...
