King Tut Hookah Lounge — Restaurant in North Brunswick Township

I’m giving this one star because the customer service was very poor and the “house rules” that the waiter tried to impose on us were unfair and made no sense at all.

PROBLEM #1: the waiter was not hospitable or helpful when he served us. The three of of us who ordered hookah had to set us out hookah on our own by attaching the pipes which was confusing at first. The waiter dropped the hookah down snd dropped my pipe on the floor by accident, but then just walked away with no explanation. Also I and a friend ordered hot tea and he brought it about 25 minutes late and laid the tray on the opposite side of the table from us. I had to ask him twice if he could push it so it was right in front of us which is unacceptable. We had to repeatedly asked to accommodate us in the most basic ways and we shouldn’t have had to.

PROBLEM #2: As soon as we sat down at our booth we were told that each person had to spend a minimum $20 to be there whether that was spent on hookah or “drinks”. That’s not a rule that’s posted on their website or their Yelp page so people coming have no warning at all that that’s management’s expectation. they’re running this spot like a club that has a cover fee and it’s honestly just a converted single family home with couches and two mounted TVs…its not an ambiance that is worth a cover of $20.

The two friends that were with me who didn’t want anything were reminded multiple times that they have to buy something to be there which was super rude because the waiter made it seem like they were going to be asked to leave if they didn’t. Those two friends ended up leaving early and while the rest of us were paying our tab I was told we’d have to pay for the two friends that sat and didn’t buy anything. I politely told the waiter that that didn’t make any sense at all especially since 1. That $20-to-sit rule isn’t published anywhere on their official website, 2. those two didn’t actually consume anything while they were there, 3. They ended up leaving early anyways and 4. The place wasn’t busy so they were in no way blocking any additional customers from sitting and smoking hookah. We went back and forth for a few minutes with the waiter until he eventually ended up just letting us go without paying extra.

As we left we did notice that there was a sign that said that each person had to pay a minimum of $10 when the waiter was asking us for $20 each. Obviously, that rule is not only unnecessary, it’s inconsistently enforced, vague and and probably made up as they go along night to night.

The whole experience was disappointing and made us feel really uncomfortable and unwelcome. I most definitely won’t be back and I caution anyone thinking about going. The hookah was good so its a shame I have to write this review. You can get quality hookah from a place with way better service and management....

This place has the worst customer service ever. It was our first time here and we were meeting up with about 9 other people who've been there before. We had just left from having dinner and drinks so the 3 of us didn't order anything although my friend and I were going to get a water. The group of 9 that were already there had ordered 3 hookahs and 2 bottles of alcohol along with water and soda. Well the girl comes up to us to take our order we kindly told her we're fine at the moment. She then tells us we have to buy something so we order water and she says you have to order a hookah. We told her we don't smoke and they have 3 of them. Then she proceeds to say we need to buy a hookah for every 2 people. That made no sense. She said she wasn't kicking us out but it ls obvious if we didn't want a hookah we couldn't stay with the others. This is a ridiculous way to run a business. Hookah is not good.

I used to go to this hookah lounge 5-7 years ago and the hookah was decent. Since then, I don't know if the place was sold or just remodeled but the quality of hookahs went to crap - they don't taste like anything other than burning tobacco.

I'm used to hookah lounges making you get a drink per person, but what I did not expect was for them to make us get a second hookah when our non smoking friend showed up. We have been desperately trying to smoke the first crappy hookah when our friend drove for 1.5 hours to see us. We were thinking to hang out for 10 more minutes and leave but the moment our friend walked in, a member of staff approached us and told us we would have to get another hookah. Our friend not knowing how bad the hookahs were and not realizing that we were trying to leave ordered the second hookah out of politeness..and when it arrived it was equally horrible.

We paid for both and left but we will not be...
