Everything here was stunning from the breads to the pastries and the staff were so welcoming. My friend and I stopped in here yesterday specifically for fig danishes since figs are in season but ended up trying a couple of other baked goods as well. The bakery is located in the cutest little town and it looks like a house that was converted into a bakery. The location, design, and seating inside really tied together that homey feeling.
There was a line when we arrived but they kept it moving pretty quick. One thing that's for sure is this bakery has a strong backbone from the local and surrounding communities. We were here from around 8am to 12pm on a Saturday hanging out and eating pastries, and there was a consistent flow of customers which we loved to see. After trying everything though, we can now see why!
We ordered a croissant, fig danish, pan au chocolat, and a cheddar biscuit. The fig danish had to have been our favorite by far. The cream cheese filling was so addicting and the crumble on top added the perfect texture component. However, the croissant almost beat out the fig danish. The top was flakey with a soft buttery inside and the bottom had a nice crunchy base. Similar to the croissant, the pan au chocolat had a soft buttery interior. It also had the ultimate crunch on top, and I loved the dark rich chocolate they used on the inside. Finally, we have the cheddar biscuit. I don't eat biscuits often so not sure what to base this off but it was still pretty good for what it was and my friend said she loved it.
Virtuoso Breadworks is truly an amazing bakery and if someone asks where to go for baked goods in the area, I'm going to send them here first! We will definitely be back in the future to try their focaccia and other seasonal pastries. I also have to give them bonus points for having a wheelchair/handicap accessible walkway into the bakery. As someone who is on crutches at the moment, this is super convenient and makes life...
Read moreI visited this place with my family after it was recommended by close friends, excited to try their pastries and bread. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely unpleasant.
Upon entering, we approached the counter, where an employee was assisting two women. When we attempted to step into the small service area, another employee asked us to wait a moment and made a subtle hand gesture signaling us to stop. That was fine; we understood the space was limited and waited patiently.
Shortly after, we noticed the same employee who asked us to wait sat down at a table with a laptop right next to us, near the door. So far, no problem. The issue began when two new customers entered the shop, and this same employee cheerfully invited them to step ahead of us, as if we weren’t even there. We were completely baffled and thought to ourselves, “What just happened?”.
We felt ignored and disrespected. At that point, we decided to leave. Only as we were walking out did this employee finally notice us and ask what we needed. I’m sorry, but it was too late by then.
After reading other reviews, I realized this wasn’t the first time something like this has happened. Perhaps the service is more welcoming to regular locals. The most frustrating part is that I live in Waxhaw, so technically, I’m a “local” too.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place and hope they improve how they treat customers, as the first impression...
Read moreAfter hearing lots of great things about this place, we decided to check it out. It's a bit of a drive for us, so we planned a hike in the area too.
Covid-19: I was actually not very comfortable here. We waited in line for probably 20-25 minutes in a very small, and pretty crowded converted house. The worst part was that they have couches for people to eat at right next to where you have to wait in line. While we were there, two people were just sitting on them talking, not wearing masks (they had clearly finished eating a while ago). Given the small area and that there's no way to get takeout quickly, it would be safer if they didn't have people eating inside right now.
Once we got to the front of the line, the staff was very friendly and described everything they had. We ended up getting a sourdough english muffin that was stuffed with sausage, bread pudding, and a dulce de leche cruffin.
The english muffin sandwich thing was delicious. It wasn't served warm, but we still loved it cold. I might take it home and warm it up next time. The bread pudding was pretty good too.
The cruffin was not good. It was very dry and didn't have a lot of dulce de leche.
I'd love to come back and try some more of their savory items because I think that's where they...
