Los Reyes Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in North Charleston

Honestly, I had gone to the other Los Reyes and had enjoyed it very much, especially the salsas, so I though highly of this food chain except that it was a bit expensive compared to other Mexican restaurants. This one was not as good, sad to say! But equally expensive. Their salsa they bring with chips tasted like canned tomato sauce with little spices and pepper. But I asked for a spicier one, and they brought two out. They were fantastic! I immediately judged a restaurant based on their salsa, so this was being set it up for a good visit. Their chips are also pretty good. I ordered the Colorado steak as you see in the pictures. I've had it at other restaurants, and it's amazing! This one was a zero. The steak had lots of hard fat pieces that could have easily been removed before cooking it, but they try to preserve, and this is why they get this low score now. It was not only full of hard fat but hard and not tender. This means it wasn't cooked long enough or just old meat and reheated too many times, and I believe the latter happened as it did not taste fresh. Also, I've had this dish in other places, and the red salsa is out of this world delicious and makes the steak taste amazing as it is cooked together. Their salsa at Los Reyes, for this dish, was mediocre. It was the same red canned tomato sauce that they have for the salsa and chips at entry that has little spices and not enough pepper, so it was equally atrocious. The beans and the rice were pretty good but doesn't make up for an 18.00 dollar plate if the main dish is disgusting as this was. My friend ordered the chimichanga. He added steak, chicken, and shrimp, and it was just very disgusting. He wouldn't eat it because he said the meats were not well seasoned. We just had an awful experience. They need to do better. I am going back again, but I will likely go to the other location or go here to this one and try another meal that is not these two. I don't like to break a company on two meals and believe different foods could taste different, so I may consider returning someday. I score them a 2 because our service was good, but it should be a zero based on the seasoning of their food and the quality of the food we have tried so far. I also forgot to say their corn tortillas are so disgusting! They taste horrific, bland and hard. They aren't the delicious hand made tortillas that you would expect. Both Los Reyes' in Charleston have horrible tortillas. I won't even eat them. It's a shame, really! When people know good Mexican food quality, the tortillas will...

Worst staff i have ever seen!!!Went on a first date to this restaurant tonight we arrived at 9 o’clock they seated us took our order and had our food to us at 9:15 .The second they placed our food down in front of us they cranked on the fluorescent lights which were extremely bright,then they crank the music to full blast to the point where I had to call the server over and have them cut the music down while the rest of the servers were giggling about it . I looked around and all the other tables looked very uncomfortable which forced them to leave.....Unfortunately we had just gotten our food and wanted to at least eat it before leaving .Then the staff came out and started spraying really harsh chemicals on the floor right next to our booth and mopping the floor . Which ruined our entire meal,because once they sprayed those chemicals that’s all we could smell or taste.....after that,the server staff had the audacity to start rolling silverware directly next to our table in a completely empty restaurant .rather then doing it in a booth out of our view.It was the most uncomfortable experience I’ve ever had in my entire life. I at least could understand this a little bit better if it was well past their closing time but the fact that this place wasnot supposed to close until 11pm really upset me and my date.If the staff is in such a hurry to close the doors when you’re technically not even closed then for gods sake change your closing time to 9pm on friday also please do not seat customers. I really wish They had not sat us down nor served us at all had i known this is how we would be treated. . Just for the record we left the resturant at 9:45 pm which was 1 hour and 15 mins before they were supposed to close.I normally leave a 50% tip but after seeing how unprofessional they were I only left 10%which was 10% more then i should have left because this was by far the WORST service i have ever had at any resturant in my entire life.i’m really upset that i wasted $50.00 on a dinner where all i was able to taste was harsh chemicals and be treated with such disrespect!!!!Also after getting home and reading some of the other reviews about this place I realize this is a common issue with this place the staff is rude ,obnoxious and unprofessional. They also tend to close early whenever they feel like it.this Reflects on the owner and the management,Obviously these are the type of people that should not own or run a restaurant ever.I just wish the owners of this restaurant would have a little more pride in...

I will start with the bad first. A fee weeks ago we went to eat, paid with our debit card. A few days went by and I checked our bank statements. We were charged $130 dollars for a $58 dollar meal. I immediately called the restaurant and spoke with Erica (her husband owns the restaurant) She assured me they would fix the issue & refund the money. She called their merchant to get this fixed and called me back. She told me it would be the next day. Since we had waited 2 weeks, I ask her how they planned to make this right. She told me she would give us a gift card to make it right. Well 2 weeks later and several calls it was finally refunded. Now this is a restaurant we frequent quite often, sometimes 3 times a week This is my very favorite place. This brings us to this evening Mother's Day. My husband decided to take us out (11 of us) When we get there, I ask about the gift card as Erica had said to do they all look at me like, I'm crazy & then proceed to go about their business. So, I called Erica myself to ask about it. We sit down outside, Victor (ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, BEST SERVER WE'VE EVER HAD HERE) comes out gets our order. His personality was awesome, he got everything right and was just overall AMAZING!!! So, comes time for the check he brings it out $167, I politely ask about the gift card & he says yes she gave you $15 REALLY $15 FOR OVER CHARGING US 2 WEEKS AGO AND US HAVING TO WAIT 2 WEEKS FOR A REFUND!!! IT WAS KIND OF AN INSULT. So, I will only pay with cash now. I am not happy with Erica's answer to this problem. I wasn't very happy about that, but nonetheless we paid and left a $32 dollar tip along with our son-in-law leaving a tip for their drinks. Will, I go back OF COURSE IT'S MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT!! AM, I HAPPY ABOUT THE MEASLY $15 DOLLARS.....NO I do believe Victor is absolutely fantastic and I will request his section when he is there. He made our Mother's Day dinner fabulous!...
