THE BEST PLACE FOR CREOLE AND SOUL FOOD HANDS DOWN. Just moved up here from FL and asked a friend of mine who lives here, “Where’s the best place for shrimp and grits?” To which he replied, “Nola's hands down.” My parents were visiting and I wanted to take them to a REAL southern cooking restaurant and have never had shrimp and grits before. Coming from a Puerto Rican background, we are BIG on flavor and THEY. DIDN’T. MISS. I almost had to snap my mom out of it the way her soul almost left her body after taking that first bite of shrimp and grits. My dad had the jambalaya and almost started crying from how good it was. I had the seafood etouffee (pictured with a crawfish on top) and my boyfriend had the fried catfish with grits. Saying it was amazing was an understatement. The flavors were perfect and so nostalgic. I’m talking, having a bowl of whatever you choose on the menu (BC IT’S ALL GOOD) and curling up on the couch by a window while it’s raining and 45 degrees outside. We also had the beignets which were so flaky, delicious, and piping hot. They had a slight chew and you could tell they were freshly made. My dad and bf had the sweet tea which was freshly brewed and TRULY a landmark for the South. The state of SC should make Nigel’s iced tea the STATE DRINK for how delicious it was. The staff was amazing and constantly checking up on us and making us feel at home. Chef Nigel even asked how everything was and was the sweetest. Thank you Marva and Nigel for welcoming us to Charleston with such an amazing experience. We definitely will be...

So this is going to be a difficult review. I came for the Karaoke and food. The atmosphere is really nice. Karaoke is advertised for 4pm-10pm but the lady who does the Karaoke was late so they didn't really start until about 5:30. The background music is Mardi Gras style and sets the tone.

My food was overall very tasty and freshly made. I ordered the fried chicken special which I was told came with red beans and rice, and mashed potatoes. I asked my server if I could substitutethe mashed potatoes for another side and was told yes, so I ordered the mac and cheese. My server later came back and told me the mac and cheese would be a $2.00 upcharge. My food arrives, and is very tasty. I dig into the red beans and rice only to notice there's no rice. My biggest complaints with the food are (1) the chicken leg was about the same size as the chicken wing which was surpising because the thigh was huge; and (2) after seeing another customers order of red beans and rice, I told my server I was missing rice. My server came back and informed me that the side for the chicken special is red beans ONLY, which was a disappointment because I wouldn't have ordered the chicken special. Since I was told red beans and rice, as a courtesy for being given wrong information, I should've been given red beans and rice.

Overall, Nola's seems like a nice establishment. I would give it a second chance. I just think the staff should be better knowledgeable about the specials, and if the staff misinforms the customer,...

Nola's owes us nothing but a REPEAT! The atmosphere was amazinggg! We came when they were having karoake and the vibes were VIBING. Everyone was having a great time, smiles everywhere and laughter ringing through the air. Our server Leah was great, so attentive and even communicative with delays because there was a large volume of people and ONE chef -- Let me tell you, the food was worth the wait (even though it wasn't long!) ☺️ For starters, we got the Crab & Spinach dip with pita bread and the BBQ Shrimp and Grilled Bread -- BOTH SOO GOOD! For entrees, we got the Jambalaya Pasta and House Jambalaya with a side of Mac and cheese -- THAT MAC AND CHEESE TASTE LIKE SOMEBODY's GRAMAMA MADE IT! All of our food was legit a 10/10. From the bar, Hubby got the Nola's Bourbon Punch -- well he got 2 of them because the bartenders hands were blessed 🤭 Not only will be back, but we're simply planning WHEN! This place and those within it are GEMS, we had a great time! Thank you for a great date night Nola's!! (Disclaimer: We didn't get pictures of the starters, we just dove straight in and this video was all we got of the entrees before we jumped on them.)

We arrived at 4:05pm and the door was locked, so we were going to go to Chilli’s, but right as we walked away the owner came and opened the door. She apologized that the doors weren’t opened on time and that she was running behind but seated us immediately. She gave us two cocktails on the house for the minor inconvenience. The customer service was superb, and it was definitely appreciated. The drinks were really good and the food was even better. Those fried wings with the Nola sauce were really good. Had I known they were that good, I would have ordered my own so I didn’t have to share with my wife. The Jambalaya pasta was really good, the chicken in the pasta could have been seasoned a little better but it was still good. Same with the house Jambalaya. And the portions are HUGE!. Wish I had room for dessert because those beignets looked so good. All in all, no complaints and the owner was extremely kind and welcoming and showed us some great customer service from beginning to end.
