Sam's Place — Restaurant in North Haven

I have always enjoyed Scotty's and even the Breakfast Connection. Today's breakfast at the Breakfast Connection was the absolute worst! The waitress was very friendly and my ice water was cold. These were the only good thing about my breakfast.

Complained to the waitress about the hash brown potatoes that she said were made fresh this morning. That was a complete fabrication. The potatoes were day old potatoes. I can tell that when my fork will not penetrate the potato that they are old ones that have been sitting out for more than just a couple of hours. When I was able to get a fork into one they were cold and hard. No attempt was offered to reduce the price of the meal.

Even the toast was awful. How can you ruin toast? Well start my order by toasting the bread before my omelet is even started and leave it toasted until my eggs are completely done. OMG the butter never melted on the toast because the toast was cold!

The ham and cheese omelet was eggs, ham and no cheese. Where was the cheese or did they just use a 1/4 slice of American cheese.

Overall this has been the most awful breakfast I have ever had at this restaurant. The cook has no business making breakfast or trying to serve day old leftover home fries as fresh because that was a lie!

To all those who want a "good breakfast" try going instead to the State Street Cafe or the Breakfast Nook. Avoid at all cost going to the Breakfast Connection because this breakfast was absolutely terrible. By the way I was there at 7:00 am and there was no way a restaurant that open at 6:00 am can claim the potatoes as made fresh...

They didn’t get any of our order right. I got the Benedict Crepe with scrambled eggs but they decided to just give me an eggs benedict with scrambled eggs on an english muffin. The french toast was drowning in butter and very underwhelming. We also ordered Banana Nutella Crepes but again they decided to give us strawberry crepes instead. I ordered with banana because I’m allergic to berries so you can imagine the disappointment and anger I felt after having the entire order be wrong and then finding out I can’t even have the crepes. To top it all off when we ordered online it said it would be ready in fifteen minutes and when we got there we waited for 45, watching two other people who called in their orders or ordered online get their food before us. I’m so upset I was so excited for all of this food because it looked so good on the website but I guess not. Also it was over 50 dollars worth of food that they didn’t even get right. My family typically used to frequent this location for takeout. While waiting for our order one morning my husband noticed a cup with a sign saying something along the lines of "To go tips go in here" and asked the server more about it. He was informed that the owner Sam takes all of the servers tips they make on any take out order. And goes as far as to review cameras and make them return money if they are seen taking their own tips. Just a heads up fellow patrons, this is COMPLETELY illegal in CT and is known as wage theft. Needless to say, with the world the way it is, and servers especially, making near pennies, we will not be returning here to have our money go in the owners pockets for work the servers have done. This is one of the biggest problems in restaurants and we can only hope the Department of Labor steps their game up in catching thieves like this. Very disturbing.
