UPDATE 2: I hate to make a negative update. I returned multiple times to give them many chances in case they were just having some off days. More than a year after my first review the quality of food has gone down. About 70% of the time the food I get is not good. I'm not sure what the issue is. The cheese sauce is too thick and too salty, like glue, no longer the creamy dip I used to love. Sometimes the shredded beef in my chimichangas tastes like vomit(?!) rather than the delicious savory roasted flavor it used to have. Chimichangas are sometimes hardly fried, no longer crispy but simply a soft tortilla like a burrito. The refried beans are also too thick and too salty and have an off dull taste. Shredded lettuce will even be very bitter. I wonder if they are using leftovers from their new daily lunch buffet - I'm not sure what has changed, but I'm super bummed about it. A few times when I've got delivery I end up throwing it out after a few bites because of the off flavor. As a result I've gone from eating here twice a week to less than once a month. I'm very sad about it - I hope they improve in the future. Theirs was my favorite Mexican food! 3/10
UPDATE 1: This has become my go-to place for local Mexican. Their cheese dip and bean dip are irresistible. My new favorite dish is the chimichanga platter. Great for groups, there is never a wait to be seated and food comes out at light speed. Great lunch specials. Even the waitstaff are friendly and genuinely care about you. 10/10
ORIGINAL: I got a very simple dish, just grilled chicken, rice, cheese and toppings. It was spectacular! Simple but no less delicious. Flour tortillas came hot, food was crazy quick, and the chicken was so good! little juicy tender bites. I...
Read moreStarting with food (most important for any restaurant), this place is making some pretty fresh, flavorful Mexican dishes. Had a group of 7 of us stop in for lunch recently, and had a number of different dishes from Chilaquiles Mexicanos, Mango Fish Tacos, Pollo a al Mexicana, enchiladas, and several other entrees. Everything we had was flavorful & well prepared. Outstanding food, and that alone will bring us back for a return visit. The service was also very good - they took good care of us, refilling beverages and making sure everything was good. Only disappointment we had was one member of our group requested no sour cream, but his dish came with a dollop of sour cream on it. Not a huge deal, but a little disappointing. For ambiance, this is pretty well done for being a restaurant in a strip mall. Trying to give it a cantina/shack feeling. Next time we are in the area, this will be the only Mexican place we will go...
Read moreJust by getting in the place you know the food will be good and authentic. The staff is very nice, polite and they work really fast making sure everybody is well-tended. They give you a good size platter of chips with a delicious salsa while you check the menu. That salsa is really fresh and you can add hot sauce to it and it won't lose the flavor. I ordered the pork tamales with a side of mexican rice and beans. Let me tell you, I have been searching for authentic mexican tamales and I found them in that place. The masa is simple and delicious, the pork is so juicy, with the right amount of spice, nice size. You decide how many you want in your order. The rice and beans were really good too. I added some hot sauce to my tamales and OH my God... that took them to the next level of deliciousness!! Trust me, you want to try their food. The agua de Jamaica es a gigantic glass of juice, so refreshing and not...
