Spoiler: this entire review is based on the pho "noodle soup" at this restaurant.
As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of Pho in the last 4 years that I've known of this meal--the greatest meal known to man--I've visited quite the number of Pho restaurants in pursuit of THEE best pho out there! I've searched for the best pho in every city that I've visited in the last few years, and have an ongoing search for the best pho in Miami.
To put it simply, Pho Mi 2 Go has the best pho BROTH FLAVOR that I'm aware of in South Florida right now.
I say, "right now" because at some point in time, I would have given this title to another restaurant that my native-born Vietnamese friend introduced me to. We frequented that restaurant on a weekly basis until they began renovations a few months after my introduction to pho. By the end of their renovations, they changed many things about the restaurant--including their recipe. So I embarked on a search for a new "best pho", which led me here.
When I say, "the best", I measure that by a few things: broth richness (genuine bone marrow-flavored broth vs. store bought seasoning). Beef content (meatballs, lean beef flank, fat beef flank, stripe, cartilage). Accompaniment herbs (mint, culantro, Thai basil, bean sprouts, jalapeno, etc) Bowl sizes vs. pricing (multiple bowl sizes/prices available vs. really good pricing for single bowl size offered)
So, I specify that Pho Mi 2 Go has the best broth flavor and genuine richness in South Florida right now, but lacks in beef content, accompaniment herbs, and bowl sizes compared to the competition.
Atmosphere: The restaurant itself, is very cozy yet well spaced for what it is.
Customer Service: The customer service is a little interesting(possibly out of cultural standards). You're addressed immediately upon entry, and tended to in a timely manner. However, you have to take initiative when it comes to requesting things. They don't frequent your table, as is customary in American restaurant service--which I've come to appreciate. The owner is very active in the customer service process as well, which keeps the culture of the service very consistent.
Pricing: Nothing feels overpriced. If it looks overpriced on the menu, you're probably about to get bigger portions than you're used to (ex: 20oz cups for...
Read moreI was doing some investigating while getting rolled icecream next door and first thing I asked the owner, "do you use MSG", and to my surprise, he said absolutely not and said that he cannot repurpose his pho either, once they run out of broth for the day, that's it, you have to come back tomorrow as it takes 8 hours to cook. I even pleased my vietnamese husband with this wonderful restaurant, which is very difficult to please him with vietnamese restaurants. NEVER GO TO BASILIC FOR PHO UNLESS YOU WAN4 WATER, POWDER AND TONS OF MSG; I regretfully ate their this morning, and being pregnant, I could hardly stomach the massive amounts of MSG that Basilic uses. Even the owner of Pho Mi 2Go said so, and I agreed. We took home 2 orders of Pho from Pho Mi 2Go because I was so impressed at the ownership's decision to keep the Pho flavorful with lots of bones and brisket and MSG FREE. I don't think you'll be able to find MSG FREE pho anywhere else in miami; it is extremely rare! There is only 1 spot in Houston, TX that is Msg Free, but it does not compare to this north miami beach gem; I felt like I was eating a homemade pho broth from an authentic vietnamese family that actually cares about your wellbeing and truly wants to impress you with their homemade, MSG free cooking. I loved the pho broth so much, and my husband also gave it 5 stars; however, my husband did say when I asked, that it wasn't the best pho he's ever had compared to some of his vietnamese best friends' mothers' cooking 🙄🤣 (he is so hard to please), but I told him that it was the best broth I've ever eaten, especially from a restaurant and we will be coming back to get more fairly priced yummy pho several more times in the future. This was the first time my husband actually complimented a pho restaurant like this, so that should convince you that it is so delicious and you wont be disappointed, because they really care about their reputation and if you like their broth. They know its good and quality! Im pregnant, and the Basilic restaurant pho made me feel bad when all I was craving was a good bone broth, but Pho Mi 2Go hit the spot for this pregnant lady's taste buds (very rare as well)! Thank you so much for your hospitality and great conversation. See...
Read moreGoing in felt confused for the restaurant ambiance. Never imagined Vietnamese traditions used to like a lot of Italian music. Felt exited because even this is a small place normally places like this one will deliver huge punches of flavor and tradition, or at least that was the expectation. To taste the menu I ordered the 5 spice friend chicken wings, shrimp summer roll, and of course the restaurant star the beef PHO Combo.
Let’s kick of with the summer Roll: Tiny slim slices of shrimp cut in half the thickness of a hair. With a peanut sauce with no peanut flavor. Tastes more like pomegranate melazas. In general not bad, not good.
Next with the 5 Spice Fried Chicken: 🤦🏻♂️ there was no spice or seasoning on it 🥺. All I could taste is cinnamon for some crazy reason they put cinnamon on their chicken here for some reason. Not good either.
Finally with the show stopper the Beef Pho!!! It was a neutral type of broth, not as tasteful and intense as a normal beef Pho Broth usually is. It needed a lot of help from soy sauce, sriracha, and hoisin sauce to kind of find a taste full sense on this bowl of soup. Beef was normal like any other beef soup nice and tender, noodles didn’t feel like pho muddles, but more like Cup Noodles that you buy on the gas station.
This restaurant doesn’t represent Vietnamese tradition. I have eaten in many many Vietnamese restaurants both within the US and Vietnam itself and this certainly was the poorest deliverance of all the places I been.
For me so far here in the US the best Vietnamese restaurant has to be (Bistro B) in Dallas TX. Absolutely a must try if you visit the city. For me the best Vietnamese food you find it in there.
Note: Remember asking for a cup of water before your food arrives. Because if you don’t ask for it like I did, they will not bring you a cup of water lol. At least that was my experience in this restaurant Pho me2 go.
My pleasure guys and see on the...
