Yesterday, we stumbled over Mimmo's simply by driving by. We decided we'd venture in to see what the market & restaurant was like and found ourselves arriving just before closing. We were greeted warmly and welcomed in as if it were the start of their day! The paninis sound amazing and after having the food there, I have no doubt they are but we wanted our first intro to Mimmo's to be the pizza so we ordered the Speciality pizza which is outfitted in truffle and mushroom flavors on top of a focaccia crust. There are pre-selected pizza configurations of course, but then there's the ability to build your own pizza with a wide range of incredible toppings from olives to dates but the standout ingredient is the wide range of wonderful housemade cheeses you can select to top your pizza! That can't be found outside of Mimmo's.
We took our pizza home for dinner but while we waited (pizzas are made to order with very minimal wait time), we were treated to a delicious mini cheese board sampling which instantly transported us back to Italy! This is a very Italian practice and to see it here in Miami of all places where greed is often the focus not the customer, locked me in. I knew we'd be repeat customers. Mr. Bruno Ponce is passionate about the food he serves.
The pizza - When we reach home, we were able to enjoy the pizza. It was wonderful! The flavors blended together so perfectly. I didn't feel an ounce of guilt eating this delicious pizza, seriously. Because everything, especially the cheese is made in house in their cheese factory and isn't full of preservatives like the majority of pizzerias. Simply fresh quality ingredients combined together with passion.
Thanks and we'll see...
Read moreBest hidden gem in North Miami!!!! Family (husband & wife) owned and operated. Best, cutest "first date" spot in town! Need something different for guests to snack on, pick up some hand made cheese creations from Mimmo's. All of their cheeses are made by hand right there in the store with love. I'm pretty sure love is the secret ingredient and here's why. I had the opportunity to speak with the wife while I am waiting for my food to be made and she offered to bring me in the back so I can watch the cheese being made by her husband. She goes on to say how much she enjoys watching him make the cheese because in her words, "he looks so cute when he's making cheese".... and there's your secret ingredient. They regularly offer samples and if something looks good but you're uncertain don't be afraid to ask someone from their friendly staff for a sample. They're always happy to help. Their hand made burrata melts in your mouth and the truffle burrata is absolutely decadent. Make sure you try the "white (Mina) cheese". All of their sandwiches are made with high quality meats (yes, better than Boars Head) so you absolutely get what you pay for. Their spinach pie is delicious and I never leave without taking one home for later. They also do "made to order" personal pizzas. Do not expect pizza by the slice or pepperoni (ask for soppressata instead) since this is a high quality (and modestly priced) NY style delicatessen, not a hole in the wall pizzeria. I love this place so much that I try to eat there at least one per week....
Read moreI've said it before and I'lI say it again, reviews don't always lie. The reason I'm proud to display that Elite badge is because I want to help you find and enjoy good food. Found this place Yelping as I should. Small, cozy, kinda hidden but with delicious food. Did you know they make their own cheese here? Yes and Bruno the owner confirmed it. There was an article published back in 2005 about this place by Miami New Times and Bruno was featured along with the place. He told me it was a regular day and the New Times just showed up out of nowhere and after that the restaurant got so packed it was their biggest selling day. Anyway just wanted to share some history on the place. When I placed my order for the pumpkin soup which is one of the best pumpkin soups ever, they also give a complimentary mini cheese plate and that alone is a good way to start and even judge the place and food. I went for the Mimmo's panini for that is one of their popular and signature sandwiches and let me tell you, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato and olive pate are all fresh ingredients in this not so little sandwich. Oh and the bread is as toasty as it gets to give it that crunch, yes. I didn't have room in my tummy for dessert but l'll make sure I save some for next time. Bruno, the owner was very friendly and attentive along with the waiter present at the time. I'm telling you, swing by for a delicious lunch and try the cheese platter recommended by Bruno. Cheese made fresh, daily and by them, what more can...
