Last night we decided to give Tomato & Basil a try. Oh boy, what a pleasant surprise. This place not only met, but exceeded our expectations!! The service was excellent and the food was delicious. First, they brought us freshly baked mini breads with a black olive paste that was really tasty. Next, we ordered sorted empanadas as appetizers. They were delicious! I am not a mushroom eater but Luis recommended us to try the mushroom and Brie empanada, so we tried it. That empanada was fire. The food was so fresh and everything we ordered came out steaming hot, which is extremely important for me. I shared the Di Parma pizza with my husband. It reminded us of Italy. Great pizza, with the perfect amount of ingredients; the best part to me is that it was not greasy. I also had the Tomato Basil salad and I loved it. Not only the presentation but the taste was exquisite. I can tell that the prosciutto they used is of great quality because it melted in my mouth. Our friends had the spinach and cheese cannelones and a calzone— both tasted great. Next time I’m ordering pasta for sure. Lastly, we had deserts and they were to die for. If you like dulce de leche, make sure to try the pancakes and the artisan dulce de leche ice cream-which I heard is from a nearby ice cream store. You won’t regret it!! Overall, this is a hidden gem in the heart of North Miami. I felt like I was eating at home (because of the cozy ambient), my grandma’s food (because of the homemade taste), for a great price and service. We shall be back soon. I will add a few pictures we took to illustrate the dishes. Sorry, forgot to take pictures of the deserts. I was too busy eating 😜

First time visiting this restaurant. Never knew it existed. We were invited there by some friends and we loved everything about it. The food was delicious and I had one of the best coffee ever! Our server was excellent. They also sell gelato, which looked creamy and delicious. I will try it next time, because there WILL BE a next time for sure! I can't believe I never knew about this restaurant, but I assure you they won me over. Thank you to the staff and cook. Follow-up visit (Apr 25, 2025) Service and coffee were great! However, I wanted to try eggplant parmigiana, my favorite dish, but sadly to say, it was a huge disappointment. It was not as tasty as I was hoping it would be, based on the wonderful experience during our first visit. My wife ordered pesto pasta and loved it. I couldn't even finish mine. I guess I'll only stick to ordering pizza after this letdown. I'd be worried to be disappointed again by ordering anything else.

I’m new to this area and have been searching for a good neighborhood food spot. I’ve definitely found it. What drew me in, where the cool bicycles hanging outside on the wall. I thought, “These people are thinking outside of the box. Let’s give it a try.” I went with my girlfriend and we were greeted with smiles. It had that family-owned vibe. The smells were inviting and the pizzas looked amazing. We went with caesar salad (large enough for 2), and two pastas. The salad tasted like a real caesar salad, which we love. The pastas were al dente and the sauce creamy and perfectly seasoned. The wine is fairly priced, as is everything else. We enjoyed the tiramisu soaked, whipped, and layered to perfection. Everyone was super friendly and made us feel comfortable. We’ll def be back often.

I rarely leave reviews but I am just SO tired of being ripped off, of paying my hard earned money to be disrespected like this. I ordered a large Margherita pizza for delivery from Tomato & Basil through UberEats two hours ago. Arrived within 30-35 mins, which is odd for fresh food delivery but ok.. that shouldn't be necessarily bad… The pizza box came sealed which was great, so far so good. I open it and the thing looked like very basic and unappetizing cheese pizza, all burnt at the ages, with 1 extremely wilted (i.e. black and dried) basil leave per slice. I pick up the first slice and see the crust underneath is severely burnt, and this was the case for the whole pie. Burnt, dry, tasted like medicine. Ended up in the trash. I have had bad pizza before but never like this. A frozen pizza from Publix tastes a millions times better than this mess. —————— 11/9/2021 update - it is interesting that Tomato & Basil’s first response to my review a week ago was recently edited. On that first response they said they would arrange to refund me through Uber Eats. That never happened. You might be 28 bucks richer now but lost what could have been a loyal customer, and I will for sure let people I know in the neighborhood about your service. Uber Eats also did not respond to my complaint so that’s another service I will also stop using. GrubHub...

Went here for dinner tonight for our last dinner in Miami. Had lasagne and some sandwich with meat and roasted peppers. And honestly those were fine. The issue is when we first got there they gave us bread bits as a snack. We asked for balsamic and olive oil and the lady gave us a heads up the olive only is the spicy one. (it had lots of spice flakes in the bottom of the bottle with a drizzle funnel type lid on top). So as my family are dipping their bread and eating it I thought a fruit fly flew into mine so I grabbed it out, then I saw another and grabbed that one, then stopped and realized there was 20+ fruitflies now in on my plate. I used the light on my phone to make sure they weren't chili flakes since lighting was pretty dim and unfortunately they were not. We checked everyone's plate and all of them were covered in fruitflies. We told our server (young lady) and she apologized and gave us new plates and an olive oil container that had an actual cork lid and nothing in the bottle (flakes etc). Did they go out of the way to make the experience better at all - unfortunately not. I hope the young girl actually brings this experience up cause as it's stands, this probably means people have been pouring tons of bugs all...
