Rice House Restaurant — Restaurant in North Port

First time customers. We placed online takeout order at 10:00 am. Notified order would be ready at 12:45 pm. Upon arrival for pickup order ticket was still sitting in printer tray at cashier's counter. At this point the order was casually passed to kitchen for preparation. No explaination or apology offered, I waited another 15 minutes before order was ready. I would like to say the food was worth the wait but can't. The pork fried brown rice could more likely be described as mystery grease fried black rice . . . not only the nastiest looking rice "thing" I've ever seen, it was literally the worst tasting. Ok, moving onto the general tso chicken: simply put-inedible! Mostly undercooked chicken skin. Steamed dumplings were mushy and bland. Egg rolls had obviously been cooked (marinated) in the same aged oil as the previously mentioned rice. Cream cheese rangoon was not bad but still not earning this place a return trip or any rating higher than the lowest...

Ordered take out and front person was really nice, but the food is really below mediocre. The fried chicken wings looked great but lacked flavor and salt, General tsaos chicken was overly sweet and lack of vinegar....and the chicken was dry. The battered chicken from the Sweet and sour chicken, was crispy but lacked any salt or umami flavor, and the Beef and Broccolis sauce tasted watered down, no salt and umami flavor...beef was tender, but had a spoiled after taste after you were done chewing. I cannot recommend this place at this time, respectfully. Advice to the staff...please taste your food once in a while and see how you can improve the staples dishes of American Chinese Cuisine. Beef and Broc. General Tsaos, Sweet and sour chicken....all dishes that should be mastered for the average american palette, given how many chinese restaurants are there....

We love the Rice House,They know my order when I call in and delivery is here in less than 25 minutes.We are a preferred customer.Wouldnt eat any Chinese food anywhere else. Nice freshly prepared food,great customer service and the delivery guy is a very polite and on time. Please dont forget to give the drivers a tip as they work for tips also.

We moved to Port Charlotte 3 yrs ago. Every Friday on the way home from work my husband would stop and pick up our order. He passed away in December. I still go to Rice House in North Port as no one man k es Gen.Tao Chicken like they do. I still get 2 egg rolls,crab ragoon. Shrimp fried rice & Gen Tao Chicken. I have enough for 2 meals. And they don't put heavy handed soy sauce. I get mine without it & add low sodium at home. Still my favorite Chinese Place. Nothing in Port Charlotte is...
