Disappointed!!! Totally, totally disappointed! The first words on the GOGGLE search engine list for Breakfast restaurants in the Indian Shore Florida area with all day breakfast and VEGAN breakfast items pulled up a list including Frog Pond and right underneath the photos here are the first few words; "Vegan and Carnivores alike"... our party has two long time, lifestyle Vegans so a restaurant with Vegan breakfast items was a must. After being sat we were told by the server James (slender guy, dark hair) that they offered no Vegan listing but the kitchen could ---- possible put together something ----- so we stayed. We were disgruntled and unhappy but stayed to give the place a chance... As you will see by the attached pictures our pictures our group ordered numerous items from the menu and to be honest not one of us enjoyed the breakfast at all... I will not spend paragraphs slamming the food I will just say we will not be returning. Now on to what I will talk about.... Our table, a table of six hungry people was directly under an air conditioning vent that leaked constantly dripping on the table (until it was moved three inches) then it dripped on the servers and other customers passing by... (can you say an unsanitary issue) Then myself, another member of our party and a gentlemen from another party seated directly behind us all had to stop ourselves from becoming rude and argumentative with our server James (once again the name on our receipt ) James it seems has a very rude habit of continuously bumping into guest. He must have bumped me 19 times in less then an hour and each time I was bumped the two afore mentioned were bumped also. The server refused to take the seven additional steps it would have taken to dodge bumping into any of us and even after asking him to stop. It took all i could do not to cuss him out! He also had a terrible habit of reach across peoples food for whatever he needed instead of stepping around the table and picking items up where he would not interfere with guest or food.. 100% Rudeness to guest. Would any of my party or the people complaining at other tables return? I do...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to give The Frog Pond a try today. It wasn't our first choice, but Sweet Sage had 20 parties in front of us, so we drove the 200 yards up Gulf Blvd. Our first impression was encouraging as the restaurant was full of patrons who seemed to be enjoying themselves and the food.
There wasn't really a host or hostess but a clipboard to sign in on for a table. After a brief wait, we were seated in a cozy booth. Quickly, a young woman asked us what we wanted to drink (water and coffee). She quickly returned with both. And here is where things start to go awry. Instead of asking for the mug that was to my right, she reached right across my face with a scalding hot pot and filled my mug spilling several drops. No big deal. However, this is poor server technique and could have been catastrophic.
We then waited a good ten minutes to give our order with our server coming by twice to tell us she'd be with us in a minute. So the service was generally poor.
I have a tendency to judge breakfast by certain dishes--in this case, eggs benedict. You can tell a lot about a kitchen if the cook knows how to poach an egg. They should be hot with a runny center. These were cooked until the center was hard. The English muffin should be toasted. It wasn't. The hollandaise was actually fine--good consistency and tasty. Not impressive. My wife ordered the fruit plate, which consisted of bruised bananas, over-ripe strawberries, and under-ripe cantaloupe.
I have to say that the portions were large, so if you're hungry, this might be the place for you. But, if you prefer quality over quantity, there are many other, better...
Read moreVisiting the area and heard the Frog Pond is a great breakfast place. I must have caught them on an off day because this is a place I WILL NOT be going back to. John and his crew down the block are A LOT friendlier and treat all people the same -- not just worrying about the locals, as this place does
Server was over immediately to take my order and give me coffee but was very short and cold towards me. Was not receiving the attention as her other table and was not busy at all -- I had to ask for coffee refill, while she filled other table twice.
Fresh fruit plate was huge with an array of fruit; however, the melon was not cut -- served as very large wedges.
I had the Chorizo Omelet (special) was enormous -- way too big of a serving and to know they charge for sharing a plate -- ridiculous. There was good flavor to the omelet as well as the grits. I was not offered toast selection but was given three pieces of white and one sourdough???
Overall, I didn't feel welcome here and received mediocre service. Again, food was good but there are many other options (specifically one just a block south) for a more inviting breakfast!
PS I was going to inform the host of my experience but he was no where...
