Aarrr Pirate Bar & Grill — Restaurant in North Topsail Beach

The staff is getting drunk at the bar yelling playing around and comparing stories about who did the worst thing etc having a good loud time while there is one single waitress working her butt off taking care of all tables in the establishment. Sat a long time waiting for the drinks. A girl from customer side of the bar drinking shots (not from behind the bar) goes “have yall not put in your drink order?” We said yeah we told the lady and the bar lady goes to the kitchen to tell a girl back there to bring us our drinks which she did. There were 3 other people + that girl who had tshirts of this restaurant at the bar all hollering how they love to drink. The grease tasted and smelled old. Fish ratio to my sandwich was not good. Barely any fish. It was overly breaded to then make a sandwich with old thick roll of bread didn’t even heat the bread up. It was hard. Burger was mid. Didn’t finish. I am not exaggerating. How did I have this experience here and this place is average out of 4.4. There’s no way, what happened???? An off day or what? So...

I pulled up after struggling for 20 mins trying to figure out where to park without getting towed. At first, it was a pretty frustrating and seemed pretty underwhelming. Turns out I was just hangry and that got fixed IMMEDIATELY.

I got a water and ordered a drink. Ordered the Topsoiled with the intention of also getting something else. Turns out no need: the drink was PLENTY strong and very good.

The food took a while to get out to the table. For food I ordered the pretzels and Mahi sandwich w/onion rings. I cannot over exaggerate when I say it was the BEST of both I’ve had in a while. Didn’t disappoint in the slightest. Well worth the wait and well worth the drive. Wish I took a picture, ate it too fast.

Every TV was playing a different Pirates of the Caribbean movie which I thoroughly enjoyed. The music was great as well, so compliments to the DJ.

If I had to complain? ….idk the table was a bit wobbly, I guess.

They get 1 star because i cannot rate it any lower and I suppose because the bartender/waiter was nice. But the food was so horrendous, it was literally the worst meal I have even eaten. I ordered a fish taco with fries. The fish and fries tasted like the frozen super cheap bulk food. They didn’t even bother adding salt on the unseasoned fries. The fried fish was bad too and to make the nasty fish taco even worse, I was served cheap jarred salsa and sour cream with it. It was literally the only time I was ever served fish taco with these sides. Needless to say I just ate a few bites of the actual fish. My wive’s meal was just as disgusting. We tried so hard to at least digest some of it so we weren’t leaving hungry but it was a challenge. I did consider complaining and not paying but the waiter was nice so we just cut our loses and moved on. But obviously we’re never going back...
