Let me preface this by saying I hate giving this place such a low rating, but my experience is based on me driving 20 miles to support and try a new roaster. If I was in the neighborhood and wanted to sit down for cafe, I’d probably go with a 5*.
Nice huge warehouse place that serves very inexpensive drinks. A small seating area up front where service is also handled. But I went for beans as they advertise themself as roasters, not a cafe. They have a small selection of single source and blends. And they offer NO green beans for you to take home and roast yourself. They are quite on par price wise with most roasters. With not much deviation. The 12oz bags are $16 for house blends, and $17 for single source. That’s the price no matter which bean you want. But there are a couple of issues I personally have. Nothing major for most people. There’s no option to see the beans. They just tell you the roast (which after seeing a sample, I find to be darker than advertised personally) but you can’t actually see them. Luckily, the fella working there was able to head in the back and grab a few beans so that I can look at their actual roast. Now, I inquired about 2 different beans, but he come back with only a single handful so I’m not sure what I actually looked at. Seeing a roast is huge to me as a roaster and knowing where I want beans from certain regions to be roast wise the visual can help me decided to buy a bean or not. I purchase 2 bags. On my way out after paying and getting in my car, I realized I never checked the date. The road work wouldn’t allow me to leave luckily and this is when I thought about it. So I took a look at the bags for roast dates. I personally like a 1-2 week roast date being sold when I’m AT a roaster or even a coffee bean house. One of the bags were 15 days old. Not too bad. The other bag though was multiple MONTHS old. I believe this to be unacceptable when buying from a roaster. I’d rather save the money and purchase in a grocery store at that point. Called them and he apologized. Went in and they swapped it out. I was told the date was a mistake. Not sure how that happens, but he handed me a new ‘fresh’ bag. But the date on this one was a month old. So. I guess if you’re shopping at a roaster paying the price in hopes that things will be well done, and fresh, you may give them a shot, but with an average roast date close to a month of when you’re buying… I personally go out of my way to support roasters so that I can have freshly roasted beans. And unfortunately, I don’t feel that is what they really look to offer here.
I did buy a snack they all looked great I have yet to taste mine until my fast is over. The environment seems nice. A dog is there. All the patrons seem kind. Employees seem to have good attitudes. The prices for the brewed coffees espresso and even the treats are very nice. So...
Read moreThis has become my favorite coffee shop in the area. I have no good reason to choose a coffee selling chain on Calumet over this. The service is relatively quick, the baristas/owners are always very nice, and the coffee is great quality for a great price. I typically order lattes: you can actually taste the flavors they describe, and iced lattes are automatically made with light ice but are still cold (unlike chains where half the cup is ice and the other is artificially sweetened milk for $6+). Although it has an industrial appearance, there’s a comfy seating area good for sitting with friends, AND you can see their coffee being roasted (which is cool). They also sell cookies/breads/etc to snack on. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast, or just someone looking for a pick-me-up, take that turn...
Read moreRandomly passing i saw a cute little coffee shop on the road. I walked in and was amazed by the lighting and decor or this place. It felt very homey and familiar as if i belonged here or as if I was meant to find this place. I ordered one of their many delicious beverages, As i took a sip i felt a feeling of ecstasy as I've never had a better cup of coffee in my life before. I felt a jolt of lightning from my head to the tips of my toes. As I was sitting in my own disbelief of how good the coffee was a beautiful blonde haired angel named henry approached me asking if I was ok. To this day no coffee has fulfilled my quench as this place has. Truly...
