Pepe's Mexican Restaurant - Griffith — Restaurant in North Township

Do yourself an enormous favor and take your business elsewhere! The margaritas tasted a little off, but my husband and I were looking forward to a nice meal together, and so remained optimistic. Then we looked at the menus, the prices were blacked out with permanent marker and the new (higher) prices were written above. That should have been our sign to leave, but, we unfortunately didn't.

We ordered: The appetizer was delivered to our table, Chile con carne, we were completely confused. It looked like, and had the consistency of, tomato soup. I asked the waitress if she would kindly take it back, as we didn't eat any of it, and did not care for it.

She spoke with her manager (who didn't even come to our table) and returned to us saying, "My manager doesn't often take things off of the bill. In this case, he says since you ordered it, and there's nothing wrong with it, you have to pay for it." We were outraged.

Then the entrees came: I'm not kidding when I say I would have MUCH rather gone across the street to Taco Bell. The food was waaay below sub-par.

I later heard from a friend who works at another Pepe's Restaurant location that the Griffith Pepe's has lost their LICENSE on multiple occasions!!! Why this place is still open...

My experience at Pepe's Mexican Restaurant was absolutely wonderful. I just moved here from Michigan, and haven't been able to find a decent Mexican restaurant until now. Living in Michigan, I tried every Mexican place I could and judged them by the taste of their food, sauce, Margaritas, service, and even the decor! This place was clean, the atmosphere was relaxed, the lighting is perfect, the decor was beautiful, along with the Mural that was painted across the back wall. They also have a jukebox! Shout out to our waiter, Santino! He was kind, polite, funny, and extremely welcoming and helpful. He definitely went above and beyond and for my first time there, it was much appreciated! I have been to Mexican restaurants all over Michigan, and a few here in Indiana...not ONE compares to the flavor of the meat, beans, rice, and vegetables that they serve here. The salsa and the Verde that they serve is also flavorful, and by far the best I've had in any restaurant. The Margaritas that Santino prepared were also some of the best I've ever had. Sometimes I have to choke drinks down because they don't taste right. Not here! 10/10 would absolutely...

I usually love this place but I must say that the service has gotten progressively worse with every visit. My lady and I sat and ordered our food. She ordered a extra taco with her meal. Our food came but she was missing her taco. The waitress said she will bring it out. We had to wait on refills of drinks and didn't get a refill until we were done eating. The taco never came but she said it was on it's way so I paid my bills and my lady waited on the taco. After 10.minutes I got out of my car and went back in to see why she was still waiting. She was ready to leave without the taco but I had paid for it. Our waitress then came out and told us it was being cooked. I asked for the manager. Another ten minutes past and she foof came out with the manager who offered us a senior citizen discount next time we come of 10%. Food is always good if you get what you ordered. Totally unprofessional management and staff who can't effectively communicate with each other or patrons. The location in Hammond has great staff and good food. I hope management reads this and...
