On a Saturday early evening, I entered Pines Tap with with a friend to meet some people for a drink. When we entered the establishment EVERY single patron of the bar turned around and became dead silent. We began to look around for our friends. We began to scan the patrons of the bar to see if any of them were those that we were meeting. In the matter of seconds of doing so, a patron of the bar turned around and said, "whomever you're looking for isnt here." The bar keep then shot me and my friend a nasty look, it was as if we were unwelcome in the establishment. We were so turned off by this, we left. Upon walking out we ran into the people we were meeting. I explain what had happend to us and we decided to go elsewhere. Given how upset I was with this situation, my friend (who is white) decided to walk in and see if she would receive the same treatment as myself ( a woman of color). Not only did she walk in, but she got welcomed, prompt service, and told thank you for your business. In a nutshell she received service with a smile. Now why is it that myself, a woman of color, received such poor treatment? Its not like the bar keep or patrons never saw a black woman before. Yet my caucasian friend experienced a much different scenario in a matter of minutes. She got service with a smile, and I was treated as if I had to be there with my master. Needless to say this establishment, the employees and patrons included, where racist to the max. I will never return to this establishment/hole in the wall for the way I was treated. I can highly recommend if you need to have a cold one and your in the area you visit Nick's Liqours located at 6838 Calumet Ave., Hammond, Ind 46324 (its approximately a mile down the road). Not only will you be treated as a human being, regardless of skin color, but you'll be able to enjoy your drinks with the friends you intended to...
Read moreOn the evening of 5/28/2024 I went to Pines Lounge for the first time to try something different. At first glance it look like a nice pace to be that being said immediately after entering and ordering my drink the guy that was running the bingo game came over to me asking if wanted a bingo card not giving me anytime to become acclimated to my surroundings I didn't even have time to take the payment out for my drink I felt bum-rushed. At this time the female bartender gave me my drink in my hand almost simultaneously of me getting a bingo card with all this going on I went to set my drink on the bar and looking at the bar I couldn't distinguish the bar rail from the bar and set my drink halfway on the rail and over it went and when that happened there was no compassion from the bartender in fact she looked at me with utter contempt, through some towels on the bar, and took my money. As I was cleaning the drink off the bar with the towels she through on the bar she was saying with a bad attitude don't worry about it but by the time she gave me my second drink I had the first drink cleaned up.When all was said and done I paid $18.00 for one drink wasn't told I would have to pay for the spilled drink and I didn't even get so much as a receipt. Needless to say I set at a table slow sipping my $18.00 drink trying really hard to salvage some part of my first evening out in a very long time that didn't happen. All I can say at this point is if taken money from their customers is how they make extra money then I'll stick with the liquor store and play my own music and would advise people of color to do the same unless you bring...
Read moreThe bartender who looks like she’s had one too many sugary drinks lost the smile she had when she saw me walk in the building, everyone in there was staring just like someone else mentioned. I asked if they had a bathroom and she said “for customers” with an attitude, I said “well I will be a having a drink” since they were the only bar open in my radius, she scanned my ID and said “we can actually refuse Illinois IDs” and I won’t add the rest of what I said, but I went to the bathroom and she turned the music off as well as talked about me to another customer which could be heard through the walls. Complained my entire time there about people coming in but was sweet to all the guys there or coming in. Damn, girl, are you there against your will? Someone steal your man? I will gladly find other bars in my new neighborhood who treat their veterans better. If your other bartenders are this bad good luck keeping the place open and I will definitely be telling all my friends...
