Great place for ice cream, sundaes, cones, and more. They even offer chips and cheese. They are pretty quick with their service even when they are super busy. My reason for this 3 star review is, I believe the owner/manager should go over how important awareness to nut allergies are.
My oldest son has a severe allergy to nuts. Im talking, tongue itching, throat itching, face swelling, and throat swelling. The throat and face swelling is the worse. Its painful AND it could lead to asphyxiation if not treated right away. Which is why a lot of schools if not all, doesnt allow anything with nuts allowed in the school. Correct?
I ordered my son a fudge brownie sundae. Its what he always get. Its his favorite. I always stress to the person who is taking my order "no nuts please, my son is allergic to them severly". As my son begin to take his second bite of the sundae thats covered in chocolate syrup and whip cream. He bites into a peanut, and panics. He says "dad I just ate a peanut". Luckily there is a Walgreens not too far and i flew over there to grab some Benadryl. In most cases if we catch it early and its not too severe, Benadryl can work, if not we need the Epi Pen which we didnt have or a trip to the Emergency Room.
When I came back to have the sundae replaced, I was asked " how many peanuts was it". Now there was more than one, he ate one unknowingly until he began to feel the allergic reaction. I was also able to scoop out at least 2 more. And I showed to the server. Regardless of how many nuts that was in the sundae. I clearly stated, "no nuts, my son is allergic". Its not that he doesnt like nuts, he is allergic to them. Huge difference.
The servers should be more aware and cautious when customers mention "no nuts". Mistakes happen, we're all human. But the servers intial response to my son having an allergic reaction just minutes after purchasing from you was "how many nuts was it". As if I could just dig and scrape them off. Again not liking nuts and being allergic to nuts is a huge difference. One is a preference the other is for medical purposes.
In my opinion I think a server loaded the sundae with nuts. Relaized, "oh crap the customer said no nuts". Instead of remaking it, they just scraped as many nuts as possible off. But some of the nuts were not able to be removed and they still served it. Which caused my son to get sick. Luckily I reacted quickly and he knew immediately he accidently ate a nut.
Please make your servers aware of nut allergens PLEASE. Other than that, no...
Read moreA Co-vid nightmare! I wish I could be singing the high praises about how great the ice cream is but instead this?! Ownership has (it least 6) employees packed into this tiny building and none of them were wearing masks last night!! (All young kids working shoulder to shoulder). Young kids who perhaps don’t know better, aren’t listened too, Have no choice, etc. Clearly They have Deplorable leadership! Although orders are picked up outside its still dangerous for customers as there’s only one tiny window where all customer employee transactions take place. I didn’t see the drive-through operator to see if they had a mask on but considering no other employee did I doubt that person did either. Handing items and speaking face-to-face with hundreds of customers each day. I will say they did have lines spray-painted on the ground that were about 6 feet apart, (obviously to encourage spacing), thanks a lot but that all goes out the window the moment you get to the front of the line. Usual pick up window is boarded up, (It’s a small window that could easily be replaced) Tons of restaurants operate out of small buildings and find ways to make it safer, they could easily take orders outside, swipe payments on an iPad, even if the restaurant had no money they could easily have someone come outside and hand write the orders on paper )old school) and run them inside anything to prevent people from coming up to the window! Offer to take their payment outside, etc. Blaming it on the structure of the building or only having one window is not acceptable. They clearly choose not to do any of it because they have no regard for the safety and well-being of customers or employees. Transmission rates have never been higher and Clearly ownership don’t give a f—k. There paying these very young kids low wages and putting them all at risk. Not even a glass/plastic shield over the window. When you swipe a credit card there’s not even an option to leave a tip to try to put a few extra dollars in these kids pockets ! I have no sympathy for this place as they’re raking in the $. Line is around the block all day long. Should be shut down or it least fined And forced to change there practices, Disgracefull.
Ice cream was great as usual, thanks to the great young...
Read moreHORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT WASTE GAS. By far the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced, Dairy Queen is much better even corporate had horrible service. I’ve lived in Hammond for years and never seen such discrimination and rudeness. I normally come here for a quick stop of ice cream before getting home. One night I had arrived just before closing time even have dash cam footage and waited in line for over what seemed to be 30 minutes in line just to get to the window and they told me they were closed when I had arrived before closing time they should have put a sign or come like Dairy Queen does stating I’m the last customer to be dealt with and or letting me know ahead of time instead of having me sit and wait wasting my time. I tried to explain to the staff if they could at the very least give me some slack for arriving before hand but instead of them politely declining the staff decided to give me weird faces and one even give me a disgusted look and rudely starring while choosing to ignore me. I then proceeded to contact corporate to write a professional complaint about the service with evidence and they reached back with a much more rude response that was non professional and declined any statements. Never spending money here again as my time is much more valuable then the mere minimum wage that half those kids under 18 make and whoever manages the website. Dairy Queen and even McDonald’s has had more professional courtesy and open mind than what I’ve seen tonight, my mood was ruined, take your money to Andy’s custards for better ice cream quality and polite service. Do not waste your gas on the longest lines and...
