Overall Rating: 3 /5 Stars
My dining experience at Rosebud left me with mixed feelings. We kicked off our meal with the oysters and crabcake as appetizers. The oysters were a letdown—not worth the price and lacking in meatiness. In contrast, the crabcake stood out for being tasty and well-prepared.
For the main course, I opted for the prime rib, a daily special. The dish itself was delicious, but disappointingly, it didn't come with any sides. While sides were available for separate purchase, it felt lacking not to have even a basic accompaniment included with such a premium dish. On the other hand, my girlfriend tried the trio medallions cooked medium rare, only to find them dry and tasteless. Given Rosebud's reputation as a high-end restaurant, this was a surprising letdown.
On the beverage front, the spicy mule I ordered was a highlight—it was well-crafted and enjoyable. However, the restaurant's ambiance left much to be desired. The lack of style and plain setting didn't quite match the expectations one might have from a dining establishment of this caliber.
Despite the shortcomings, I am willing to give Rosebud another chance in the hopes of a better experience next time. With some improvements in food quality consistency, inclusion of sides with main dishes, and perhaps a touch of ambiance enhancement, Rosebud could elevate its overall dining experience. I look forward to seeing if my next visit yields a more satisfying outcome.

Rosebud in Munster: A Mixed Experience
On a rainy evening when a steak craving hit, Rosebud in Munster seemed like the perfect choice, especially after a lackluster first visit. Despite the initial lukewarm experience, we decided to give it another shot—our second visit in less than a week.
Arriving a little early for our 7:15 reservation, we were met with the expected wait. The packed entryway provided an opportunity to observe a table of disgruntled patrons discussing a supposedly overcooked $300 Tomahawk steak with the manager, Keith. This sight didn't exactly set a promising tone for the evening. After a 25-minute wait, we were finally seated.
Service was not the swiftest—getting a drink took longer than anticipated. A helpful young lady named Chloe stepped in to assist our server, ensuring we got our orders in. Opting for the trusty spicy mule for my drink, I was not disappointed—it lived up to my expectations from the previous week.
Remembering a seemingly promising appetizer from the week before, Pan-Seared Shrimp and Pork Dumplings, my anticipation was high. However, what arrived at the table was a far cry from what was expected. A meatball disguised as a dumpling, containing a minuscule shrimp hidden inside, drowned in a forgettable red sauce. At over $20, this dish felt like a supermarket frozen food find, rather than a gourmet appetizer. While offered an alternative, I chose to stick with my steak order.
Ordering the skirt steak cooked medium rare, I was pleasantly surprised by a perfectly cooked piece of meat. My girlfriend opted for the Tortellini Carbonara, which also impressed with delicious flavors, despite the pasta being a bit too al dente for her liking.
To make amends for the disappointing appetizer, we were treated to complementary shots of Limoncello and a delightful Butter Cake dessert. The Limoncello hit the mark, and the Butter Cake was simply divine, leaving a lasting positive impression on our palates.
While the meal had its ups and downs, it fell short of the high expectations associated with a place like Rosebud. Comparing our experience to Cooper's Hawk, which has consistently delivered satisfying outings, the choice for our next dinner outing seems clear. Cooper's Hawk's reliability and quality overshadow Rosebud's hit-or-miss performance.
I will still give this restaurant...
Read moreSo let’s start top to bottom. As soon as we got in, we were greeted kindly and were taken to our table. Immediately my wife and I say to our waiter, it’s a bit cold in here. Our waiter says, well, when you come in from the heat, everything feels really cold. So immediately we felt dismissed. The next 5 tables that came in, without exaggeration asked the exact same thing we did and we’re not met with help, but rather the same excuse we received.
So we order and my wife asked a question about an appetizer, our waiter answered but then kept offering different suggestion cutting my wife off twice. This is an odd experience right out the gate. I didn’t feel as if I was in a high end restaurant, I felt like I was being sold something, just odd. So my wife gets the corn chowder, it was amazing, I loved it as well. For our entree, she did chicken parm and I did the bone in filet with the Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes.
My filet was undercooked a bit but still delicious. Did not taste as if it was wet aged as long as stated, but still pretty good. The Brussels sprouts were ok, my biggest gripe is they were soaked in sauce. Loved the sauce, just way too much and I put extra sauce on everything. The potatoes were decent but not really hot. One of the workers, not sure who, they were waking by and said that garlic is great. They had garlic cut in half, usually baked with oil and it comes out like butter. I make this for myself in my air fryer all the time. The garlic was not caramelized far enough. So it was too hard to eat, which was a bummer because I love soft, creamy garlic. So then my wife asks me to try her chicken parm. If I was not in public, I would have spit it out. That is one of the worst dishes I had eaten in a long time. I mean horrible, and I’m actually trying to be kind. Given the context here, this is not a cheap place and I’m not a cheap guy, but there weee so many unacceptable things, we won’t go back.
I want my waiter to try and make the room a bit more comfortable. I mean at least explain and apologize. I appreciate someone taking responsibility, but to slough a whole room of people off, yikes man. I would expect all the food to be hot, the steak to be cooked right (I’m being a bit harsh on this one, steak was still good, but again, should be perfect at a place of this supposed caliber). The garlic not being done. For me, the mail in the coffin was my wife’s food. Absolutely awful and that is not an exaggeration. The chicken was dense, overcooked, the sauce wasn’t great.
Also, they don’t do mixed drinks. They can make you one but my wife’s was too strong and she asked for a red cosmo, light on the alcohol. She ended up needing a shot of cranberry to even it out.
Listen, I’ll end with this. My uncle comes here a lot and he loves it. My uncle knows steak. When I was young I remember the first time he took me to Ruth’s Chris. They’re terrible now, but at the time, blew my mind. He’s always known good food. So I expected the to be exceptional and I was beyond underwhelmed.
Hope this helps...
Read moreI heard good things about this place so decided to go here for my one year anniversary with my husband. We had a reservation and didn’t have to wait to be seated. The host was friendly and kind. The place is quite small with many staff and patrons scooching by each other. We had bread and a Caesar salad to start. The salad was good. The bread however wasn’t that great. Maybe a 4/10. I ate one piece I’ve had way better bread even at a mom and pop shop. The sides are very shareable here with large portions. However I personally didn’t care for either of the sides we got. The Mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes had a kind of weird sweetness to them that I didn’t care for as most potatoes have a salty/buttery flavor at other places. I’d rate the potatoes a 5/10. The Mac and cheese had thick shell pasta that were a bit al dente for my liking and were maybe a 5/10. My steak was fine but lacked that buttery flavor most places give automatically. Here you have the option for flavored butters/toppings but none sounded good to me because they had herbs and such in them. I’d rate the steak a 8/10 still. We waited quite a while for the food to come out. Got there at 6 and it took over 45 mins for the food. As for dessert we got the chocolate cake which was good about an 8/10. The cheesecake however was disappointing. I’m not sure how they store the dessert but it tasted of cooking oil and left over food like it was sitting in a fridge with uncovered food. We took that to go and unfortunately I took one bite once we got home and threw it out. I’d rate that a 1/10. The server was average. You would expect more when dining at such an expensive place. She wasn’t bad or anything just kind of bare minimum service. Still tipped her well because we do that regardless. We only had water to drink which only the tap is free. We got spring and it was 8 dollars which is fine but it would have been nice if we were told the price of the water. We were only asked would you like water? When we said yes they asked sparkling, spring, or tap. No biggie but would have been nice to just know especially if we were to have wanted more. Overall I’d say the rating of 3/5 for this place is valid. I most likely wouldn’t go back because there are better steakhouses...
