The staff at this hotel deserves 5/5 stars. They are very kind and friendly. As many reviews have shared, this property is new, so there’s virtually no wear and tear throughout; however, there are some weird issues specifically with the shower and A/C.
I must add the location of the property is exceptional. You are near tons of great places to eat, and they’re all less than a five minute drive away. There’s also an incredible park (arguably one of the most beautiful parks I’ve seen in the U.S. so far) where you can walk around a pond and enjoy the sights.
The hotel’s bar selection is quite limited as, to my understanding, nearly all of the drinks are pre-made and bottled for purchase. This didn’t really bother me as much because the drink named “Pilot” was phenomenal, but where things got a bit weird/hectic is that your front desk staff is also tasked with serving as a “bartender.”
Pick a side… Either hire a bartender who is knowledgeable or simply sell the bottled drinks and allow guests to serve themselves after verifying their age. The young lady who served my sister and I was sweet, but she’s not a bartender. Both times that I purchased a drink, she spilled some of it on the bar while pouring it into my glass. The drinks are already small. No one wants their small drink spilled in the process of a pour. My sister opted to pour her own drink after witnessing my drink get spilled twice. I don’t blame the young lady. She’s not a bartender. She’s a front desk receptionist.
My room was clean; however, the developers who built this hotel did a TERRIBLE job with the shower. First, the door would not stay closed at all. Imagine being in the shower and having your door roll all the way back two minutes into bathing yourself. When it happened the first time, I assumed I hadn’t closed it tight enough. But it happened over and over and over again. That’s when I realized this was not a “me problem.” This was a botched job. I had to use the exterior door in the shower which stayed closed (for the most part) so that I could bathe without stepping into a puddle on the floor.
Also, I was confused by the shower handle when it came to adjusting the temperature. The hot and cold labels don’t align with the actual handle used to adjust the temperature. When I first showered, I’d assumed that the water at the property was lukewarm because I placed the handle on the furthest end of the “hot” label. No, what I needed to do was turn the handle in the complete opposite direction of the “off” position in order to have a steaming hot shower.
In addition, water would randomly drip from the shower head several hours AFTER I’d showered. And since the drain is covered by metal, that created a “drumming” sound. At first I thought one of the other hotel guests was playing a drum at 3am, but as I attempted to find the source of the issue, I realized it was coming from the shower. I repeatedly twisted the shower handle in the “off” position, but the water continued to drip for about 20 minutes. Weird.
Lastly, I kept my thermostat on 68 degrees. The first night, it was really cool which is how I like my living space. After that, I’d venture to say the temp never lowered beyond 72 degrees. I’d even tried to turn it down to 66 degrees just to see if it would cool off more, but it didn’t.
All in all, it was not a horrible stay. I’d stay here again so long as the aforementioned issues are fixed. There are other hotels in the area that are even closer to restaurants, bars, and the park, so I’ll take that into...
Read moreAbsolutely horrendous experience. I was in town to do a few shifts at the hospital and booked a reservation here through Hyatt directly. Finished late with work and just wanted to get some sleep. Went to see the front desk and gave them my name for the reservation. This lady goes. I don't have a reservation under that name. I pulled it on my phone and gave her the confirmation number and stated you can't not have my reservation because it's right here. All of a sudden she can see my reservation. She goes there are no more rooms available and my reservation was canceled. I told her I reserved a room, it was confirmed and the reservation is still not canceled... Which means give me my damn room. She responded with, there's nothing I can do because we don't have any rooms anymore. I called Hyatt customer service, they confirmed that my reservation is still active and confirmed and there are no notes to suggest they don't have a room for me. Told me to to stay on the line and called the hotel themselves. All of a sudden the customer service person says there are no other rooms available. I told them you guys already charged me $600 and they said it should be returned within 7-10 days. Gets even better .. rep on the phone goes, " you know what I can do for you, I'll go ahead and cancel the reservation. On top of that, we will also waive the $60 penalty for canceling the res after check in time... I said did you even hear what you just said.. you are canceling my reservation that's still active and has been paid for and not only are you doing me the favor of canceling it... You are so generous that you're not going to charge me a late fee for a reservation you are canceling while pretending to do me a solid? Absolutely shameful. I had to leave at 9: 30pm and started calling to find a hotel to stay at that late. These people showed no empathy, accepted none of the responsibility and apparently that's how they treat their honors members. Going back and forth on active reservation versus canceled, telling me no room is available when I later found out there was one. I would rather sleep in my car than go to this...
Read moreThis was a great stay! I likely won’t have a reason to return to Munster, but this location made me look up other Hyatt Place hotels in other locations. Parking was fine (I stayed Saturday through Monday). It’s in an area with stores, gas stations, restaurants, and a hospital on the same road. There are many other options within 10 minutes as well. The gentleman who checked me in was very friendly. As I was walking to the elevators, I was greeted by another employee who welcomed me to Hyatt Place. I did stay on the top floor, which is the 4th floor. The room was perfect. Very clean, cozy, and comfortable. I like that you can see the tv guide without going to each channel. The body wash in the shower smelled good. The water pressure was amazing! The bed was comfortable. I liked the option to do online check in and express checkout through the email. When I checked out, I just left my key in the room and didn’t have to go the desk. While doing the express checkout, it said I would receive a receipt via email. I didn’t receive that. I also don’t care. They charged the correct amount, but if you’re a stickler for that, that may be an issue. One of the things that I appreciate was seeing how serious they take cleaning. I’m used to seeing the cleaning staff gone by 12pm. Sunday, I left the hotel for a party at 3:30pm and they were still cleaning. It also appeared to be thorough cleaning as I was walking by, even when I was leaving the hotel Monday. If for whatever reason I do end up back in Munster, I would absolutely stay here again....
