Jake's is a cozy breakfast/lunch eatery on King Street in Northampton, Massachusetts. The establishment offers egg dishes, French toast, and pancakes, as well as a variety of salads, sandwiches, and burgers. We arrived on a Friday morning just after 9:30. The place was busy, with almost all the inside tables filled, and every outside seating occupied. There were also a few seats available at the bar. Our hostess seated us at a table indoors. We ordered mimosas and coffee as well as our meals. The Jake's Eggs, included two eggs any style (we selected fried hard) served with home fries and toasted 3-seed sourdough. The food was well-prepared and very flavorful. Also selected was the Basic Sandwich, with two fried eggs and a sausage patty, topped with cheddar cheese on a toasted king sized English muffin. Although the sandwich was delicious, the spices in the sausage weren't quite to my liking, Still, it was enjoyable enough that I didn't feel like removing the patty from the sandwich. We both ordered a side of bacon, which was thick, plentiful, and pleasing. It was also not greasy, which made it all the more tasty. The atmosphere was convivial and agreeable, which added to the pleasant experience. If you find yourself walking by one morning searching for something to eat, it would behoove you to give Jake's a try.

Jake’s is a memorable, dependable, “breakfast served all day” and lunch styled restaurant. It’s the type of place to go where you know you’ll consistently get a comforting hearty breakfast. This last visit I ordered the Coolidge, which is scrambled eggs with roasted tomatoes, kale, roasted garlic, and goat cheese, with home fries and sourdough. The scramble is an exceptionally flavorful combination, the sourdough is obviously homemade, from a local bakery perhaps. Most of us, I’m sure, have tasted a stack of home fries before, however, the ones that are served here are noticeably doused with a generous amount of seasonings, are cooked both crispy and soft, and are above par. The friendly waitress’ service was quick and expedient in the way you’d want a breakfast or lunch place to be. An overall great experience.

We visited for brunch during the weekday in the late morning. The food was good, about what you would expect from a restaurant that is rated as highly as Jakes is. The breakfast potatoes had a nice flavor and a very enjoyable crunchy exterior. We heard the French toast was good too, but unfortunately we never received ours. The downside was that the food was a little on the pricier side, and it took a long time to reach the table. So much so that I had to finish my meal early to go back to put more money into the meter that I initially paid for 1hr 15 minutes. The other unfortunate issue was the poor service we received. My wife ordered French toast, but we received pancakes instead. The server insisted we said pancakes, even though her own notepad didn't have pancakes written down for our order. Mistakes happen, but instead of being offered the frenchtoast we wanted she assured us that the pancakes were just as good. We left without eating the pancakes that we didn't order, and paying for them too. Unfortunately, no matter the quality of the food we were served, the poor service that left a bad taste in our mouths will make it hard to return for another visit. Your visit will obviously differ.

Edit: owner called me shortly after my initial review to apologize, offer additional compensation, and to let me know he was having kitchen staff go through all their produce. He seemed genuine in his apology, and I'm hopeful that my partner and I will be able to try their food again in the future. From what he said, they receive their produce pre- washed, and will be rewashing anything they get in the future just to be safe. My partner and I usually really love the food here, especially the 3-seed sourdough. Unfortunately, the most recent time we ordered food from here via doordash there was a pretty big bug larvae that we could see was cooked in with the rest of my food. I understand that accidents happen and working with fresh veggies runs the risk of the occasional bug, but the size of the thing made us concerned about how it went unnoticed. Hopefully this was a one off and the resturant works on its quality checks, but we will likely not try their stuff again for a while.

Wow, bloody wow is all I can say…. In town from Charleston, SC visiting my wife’s family and checked this awesome place out. The menu is huge !!! Something for every appetite. The fried oysters and shrimp were amazing and that’s from someone who lives near the beach. The drinks are incredible also. We tried the mango / strawberry margarita and it definitely didn’t disappoint so we ordered a pitcher of it. Best of all…the prices are surprisingly low and the service was spectacular. We were treated like family as soon as we walked in and our server Kayla didn’t miss a beat. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ And 3 Thumbs Up From Us 👍👍👍 Highly recommend. We’ll be back to check out the huge breakfast menu before we leave 😎

Visited right as they opened on a Monday. Staff was still getting ready for the day , fair enough. Got a coffee and a menu, but needed to flag someone down after a few minutes to get cream/sugar/spoon for it. Had hash and scrambled, the days hash was a taco beef hash, and it was very good. Eggs were chopped into bean sized pellets presumably for quick cooking. My plate came out incredibly fast and I was finished and back to my car in less than 20 minutes. Might try this place again I had heard some good things but this time it was just an OK experience. Prices were very reasonable for what you get. For anyone with mobility issues note that the restrooms are down a flight of stairs.
