So this review is for the restraunt manager Sarah & not for the actual restraunt & my waitress deserves a 5 star review, but Sarah should be let go. So I came here for 2 separate holidays ( St Patrick's Day & Mothers day So this is a double review) St Patrick's day I called 1.5 to 2 months in advance to book & they said Ai had to talk with the manager Sarah & put mexthrouhh to her voicemail , left a message & never heard back from her, So I called again & received the same. So I had my mother call ( because my mother is retired a d has more time then me to make these type of calls & Sarah did call her back & she asked whstcwqs in the Buffet & wanted to be sure they had corned beef & cabbage * which Sarah said they did) on this is the only day out of the entire year I eat corned beef & cabbage & it is a tradution fir me ti have this dish every St Patrick's day for the last 42 to 43 tears ( or so) & I have had this dish here at Wiggins in past years & it was very good which is the only reason ww booked in here. A short time before the date I got a conformation call ti confirm my reservation at which time I asked again just to be 100% sure about the corned beef & cabbage & the girl on the phone confirmed to me again yes they did. I got there the following few days & when I got there no corned neef & cabbage, they told me they could only could get 1 corned beef, so made a corned beef quiche & I was upset about this, it they did have prime rib si I let it go without a fuss, but was a little upset . So my wife wants to book here again on Mother's day & invite her best friend & there family ( who have never been here before) Sarah again did not return my calls to berk & again I had my mother take care of it. This time we arrived on time but has to wait for our table ( which should have been ready for us as we booked a month in advance & we were seated 25 min late & has to wait in the lobby for them to fix the table. Finally we were seated & I am. Very hungry, dud not eat anything the entire day ( and not it is 3.25 to 3.30) I look at the buffet & it is all picked over & the scrambled ends are partially brown ( I was not thinking but should have taken a photo for you to see) it eas not the last seating & there was 1 more seating after us, but the food was near gone & looked old, So I went strait fir the carving station to the prime rib, ther was a man in front of me & hexhad 3 plates & they were carving him 3 peaces of prime rib & when he left there was nothing but a peice of dried up fat left over, So I said to the girl behind the carving table when are they going to put out another prim rib & she told me I am very sorry sir but there is no more prime rib left. Hearing this I became very mad. Hungry, tired & totally fed up with this place & there poor management & itold her I am very sorry, but there was no way I cane down here with my entire family & friends to pay $60 a person tonrar some old dried up brown color eggs & that was not going to be happening today. She said she did not blame me. I was very embarrassed to having someone like this happen in front of my wife's best friends family ( who were on my side & in total agreement with me) but otcwas so embarrassing bringing them here & telling them how great this place is & having something like this take place. They had all old dried up food that should have been thrown away they wanted to serve us at top dollar pricing. I found my waitress & told her & the worker atcthexhotel front desk about this & they told asked mexif I wanted to see the manager Sarah about this ( which I told them I certainly did) but no one could locate her to come out & talk with me? Nor have I ever heard back from her to this day, but the waitress went in back & found me some more prime rib ( probably was being saved for the workers to eat after there shifts) I apologized to the waitress & explained ti her how a simulator thing happened to me last time here with the corned beef. The waitress gave me us a large discount off the bill. And I gave her...
Read moreAte 2 meals Buffet style; Dinner and Brunch. The need for service was small, so I don't really know how it would have been if I needed everything delivered rather than helping my self. The food is quite pedestrian. (this means anyone, even a teenager, can make food of equal quality) The techniques for cooking were the problem, because the variety and dishes were actually good-- could have been good. Dinner The pasta dish; the pasta was so overcooked it was falling apart, rigatoni but not a single piece of pasta was still in its tube shape. I did not try the chicken or the pilaf. They had a sweet potato, kale and (another vegetable) dish that was good and could have been a superstar had the potato in the dish not been overcooked and pasty. The rolls were just Sysco boxed rolls, bland and dry. Brunch The eggs benedict were good and as expected. The waffles and French toast were dried out; but the whipped creams to put on them were just right, lightly sweet and fluffy. Bacon, Sausage, as expected. There was a honey mustard Salmon with green beans that was very good; and a frisee, cranberry, apple and pickled red onion salad which was the best. At both meals, the same dessert spread; petit fours and such, but no dessert item any better than treats you can get a a Starbucks. I found the dry waffles with the caramel whip cream to be way better than any dessert they had on offer. IMO, a grand old lady hotel like this should have a Pastry chef, and some dishes specially for the space.
And what a unique and amazing space it is. It should be a go to location for all 18th century reenactment groups to have their awards banquet. D&D players would have elevated campaigns in these rooms. If only the food were...
Read moreWe went there for a Sunday brunch and were extremely disappointed. I was really surprised when I called and got a reservation on the day of without any problem. The brunch is served 10 to 2, we came at 12:30, the food offered was disappointing to say the least. Once they run out of something, they do not replenish it. The carving station was basically empty. So, if you wanted something from there, you are out of luck, although you are paying for it. The tiniest piece of steak from the carving station that I had was cold and dried out. All they had for turkey - was a 2 inch shrunken end piece...Everything was cold: chicken, fish, eggs Benedict, fritata. For sides they only had breakfast potatoes. Smoked salmon was cut up in the smallest pieces and bagels just looked sad. The dessert table was a joke. Really picked over, stale lady fingers, cheesecake in which you can taste cheese gone bad, strawberry cheesecake flavored with jello. They didn't even have enough clean plates. The staff just stood there chatting and we had to ask for more plates and wait awhile for them to find those. I don't know if our experience would have been better if we have come earlier, but that's not the point. If you offer brunch until 2, you should have the same offering available at 1:45 as at 10 am. Save your money and go elsewhere for better food...
