No doubt about it, Rosati's has some of the absolute best ice cream/frozen custard around! Despite the fact that I don't live nearby, I come here quite often during the summer months because I feel that the quality of their ice cream is worth the extra travel! HOWEVER, I have been quite disappointed with their lack of consistency as of late. There have been plenty of instances in which my fiancé and I order ice cream cones of different sizes and you can't tell the difference between them, or otherwise we order ice cream cones that are supposed to be the same size but are not in fact anywhere near equivalent.
Yesterday afternoon I had a particularly aggravating experience there, and I wish that I would have had the courage to say something. I went out of my way to go there in order to get their flavor of the day since it happened to be my favorite flavor that they offer. I purchased two takehome quarts of it, plus a small ice cream cone. Let me tell you, the ice cream cone was so pathetically small that it wouldn't even pass as a kiddie cone! I was quite surprised at the lack of generosity considering that I had made a decent purchase. What a disappointment and waste of a few extra bucks!
I don't mind paying higher prices for higher quality products, but I expect to be able to know what I'm agreeing to purchase. It seems that the overwhelming majority of the time you can't rely on that kind of consistency here! Please don't get me wrong, I certainly don't demand perfection, but the range of the quantity that you may receive is huge. You always have to guess what size you want to order depending on how reasonably you think the staff may decide to portion their ice cream that day and how much money you feel like spending and potentially wasting. Ordering the quarts of ice cream appears to be the only way to ensure that there will be any general consistency between the size that you order and the quantity that you actually end up receiving.
Finally, I would just like to add that although the following issue is much less prevalent, there have been a few occasions in which my fiancé and I order the same flavor of ice cream, but the amount of ingredients mixed in is drastically different. For example, a few weeks ago we both ordered butter pecan ice cream cones, but his contained a plentiful amount of pecans while mine only contained literally a few.
In summary, yes I would highly recommend Rosati's for quality ice cream like you've never tasted before, but you should be ready for potentially feeling cheated. I truly hope that Rosati's trains their employees to have better consistency before I have to cross this place off my list! I'd much rather go somewhere that's cheaper, more convenient, and where you know what to expect, even if that means sacrificing a bit on taste, than deal with a frustrating guessing game that all too often leads to...
Read moreRecently moved to OH. Went to this place for the first time on a Saturday night looking for some dessert. I ordered a sundae (chocolate and vanilla 50/50) with hot fudge and whipped cream. The lady clearly understood something entirely different. She gave me two cups. One was 50/50 with whipped cream, the other with vanilla and hot fudge. Not sure how she could have understood that from a very simple order. Mind you, the amount of ice cream was a joke. The tiniest scoops. They even serve more ice cream to kids than what I got for $10+. When I told her the order was wrong she asked to fix it but her tone and attitude was not the best. She seemed lost not knowing what to do next or simply tired. Instead of returning me both cups, she threw away the vanilla one and just added the missing ingredients to the other one. I was in shock. She charged me for two cups (her mistake) and threw away one she made wrong and gave me back only one. Also she never gave me a receipt for the transaction. Essentially, she stole money from me. Never gave me my money back for the one she threw away plus why would she throw away food for no reason. First time something like this happens to me. Usually, when an order is entered wrong they offer the mistaken item back to the customer. I would have taken the CUP I PAID FOR even if it was something else rather than see it go to waste. It’s my money we are talking about. Anyhow, sorry but not returning again. Very bad service, not great quality of work and food, overall just not a good experience. I have had better. I was super...
Read moreNothing special here with frozen custard, tastes decent like any other place, but very little flavors to choose from and id still say that even if they werent getting themselves involved with pride. Not sure what celebrating pride month and having a rainbow custard has to do withanything? I come here with my children who bring their friends, lbgtq community should have nothing to do with eating ice cream, not to many people really cared in 1st place but now we almost have to say stuff always because its all over. what I and plenty of others do care is putting it by our kids who need to just be kids, quit planting the seed in their minds. Little old ice cream spots need to stick to selling ice cream and that's it. Ebonys Next door here we come or old school Mister T's in oakwood or park place by tinkers creek as well...since they're sticking to just selling ice cream. Them supporting lbtq obviously doesn't take away the flavor of their custard but it's the point of involving in this at a place where children and adults...go to just to get away momentarily. Way to buckle under the pressure of todays...
