This is a great place for things from burgers to tapas. It's not just a sports grill. When I first moved back to town, this was the first restaurant I realized I wanted to come back to again and again.
Your first decision is between 3 different dining areas, each with it's own feel. There is the traditional restaurant dining room option. I don't believe I've ever eaten in that room. At the corner of the building is the dining room/bar combo. It's a little more lively. A little louder. Families with small kids, they can be loud and no one will notice or care. Note that I mentioned "corner." It's not just the corner of the building, but it's huge windows sit along side an intersection in historic, tree lined, downtown Northport. Great if you want that 'outdoors' feel, but with air conditioning. Then there's the patio. Most of the tables are covered by a huge awning. Others have umbrellas . On a nice night it's a truly inviting place to spend time.
The regular menu is great. There's variety, creativity and I've never been disappointed. If you go with some friends, hit that appetizer menu, hard. This is where I think Billy's shines best. This menu seems set up for people who enjoy tapas. It can't be accidental. I may have missed it, but I haven't noticed their appetizer combo. Think, charcuterie board for people who also enjoy olives. I may have missed it. I've just now realized I've been going in already knowing what I wanted. Lately, it's been their burgers, usually with house made potato chips. I don't even think I'm...
Read moreBeen living in Tuscaloosa for almost 8 years, and I had never tried this place till tonight. I ordered a lemon drop martini because I saw one on another table, but it was actually terrible. Tasted just like the vodka they put in It and nothing else. One little cup of ranch for the salad, and if you ask for more they charge you $1. Which is a surprise until you get the bill because the bartender definitely didn’t say I had to pay for more dressing. Cheese fries were okay, but not great. And the chili was subpar as well. Asked for a soft drink because the $10 alcoholic beverage I had was disgusting, but I guess I should have gotten water because that was $3 too. Then another upcharge for ranch, two upcharges for eggs (one on my dine in salad and one for my salad to go). And $1 for sour cream for the Chili. (The only thing that I saw listed on the menu that was an upcharge was the $1 each for onions and cheese in the chili.) The upcharge isn’t even the problem. The problem is that you don’t even know all this is an upcharge until the bartender brings the bill. Lack of communication between employees and customers for sure. But I guess she was too busy talk to the other man at the bar to tell me that what I was ordering was going to be an additional $8 in upcharges. Probably won’t return. Super...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Billy's and it was just ok. When my husband and I walked in, the hostess was away from the counter and it took at least 5 minutes before someone acknowledged that we were even standing there. I ordered a drink and a Philly Cheese Steak, which was simple, but the fries and my Philly were slightly warm and the Philly was dry. Also, my drink wasn't made properly and when I sent it back I could tell that they blended my old drink again and put it back in the same glass and it still wasn't made properly, but I didn't complain. I finished my drink, ate half of my sandwich and we headed out. It seems like this could be a cool place, but maybe on a different day, I guess. I can't really recommend it or not recommend it. Someone else may have a better...
