Rant & Rave Born and raised in Georgia…Savannah to be exact, there is a Waffle House about every 10-20 miles around the state of Georgia: that’s not hyperbole. I literally know the menu by heart. But this experience was unlike any other…ever. I got a flat tire passing thru Tuscaloosa. I stopped at Walmart to have it repaired. While I waited for the repairs to be completed, I walked over to this little familiar looking diner. This was the first Waffle House I’ve ever visited where everyone was White.lol. Call me crazy- but I’m a 45 year old Black Man, raised in southeast GA, and I’ve never seen an ALL White Waffle House (staff & customers). So when I walked in- it seemed like time stood still. Conversations paused, I could hear forks hitting the porcelain plates, every head turned to my direction…and this place was packed. There must have been an early morning little league tournament or something because it was boomin’ busy in there. I was able to grab a seat at a bar stool when a slim woman, somewhere in her 30’s, navigated my way with an urgent haste. She leaned in and with a casual southern drawl that’ll kill any semblance of caste, she said, “Dine-in or take out, Hun?” With those simple words- she put the world of Waffle House and I at ease. The music resumed- The conversations continued- and I had the best breakfast Alabama could offer a Georgia All-Star. The food was fresh and cooked perfectly! The way that woman made me feel at home, and communicated an air of familiarity in the atmosphere was absolutely exceptional. I certainly don’t want another flat tire anytime soon…but I’ll do breakfast, lunch, & dinner at this 5-Star Waffle...
Read moreMy friend wanted to eat at Waffle House today for lunch. We had to sit at the lower bar. We both had water and I had to ask for another one because something was floating in the bottom of my glass. She ordered the Texas Bacon Patty Melt plate for $11 and I ordered the Bacon Angus Cheeseburger Deluxe plate for $10.75. They came with hash browns. Our food arrived fifteen minutes later. All of the condiments come on the side. My burger was fine, just that the cheese wasn't melted and it took forever to put the mustard, ketchup, and mayo on it. Then I had to place the lettuce, tomato, and pickle on it too. The hash browns were dry, like they weren't cooked with enough oil to keep them moist. Her patty melt was good too, just not what she had really wanted. There weren't any $5 specials anymore, no steak, salad, or soup on the menu either. I wondered what happened to the rest of the menu? I would rather eat somewhere that had more to offer for that price. We agreed...
Read moreI took my daughter there for breakfast with family last week because she's never been to one before, ever. It was an excellent choice, the food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the restaurant was clean and inviting. My past experiences with Waffle House have always been on the mediocre to bad side, so I was apprehensive going there, especially being from out of state. I couldn't have been happier with the cleanliness of the place or, more importantly, the great food and service. On our long journey home, my daughter kept pointing out all the Waffle Houses we could visit. After this visit I'm quite sure we will be visiting them more often. This place is highly recommended,...
