~An absolute gem in downtown SONO~ Mecha is an experience from start to finish. Nestled in a revitalized part of the town that has a Astor Place chic city vibe to it u will find this noodle haven amongst a crowd of trendy spots. Upon entrance you get the feel of a traditional Asian noodle house with these ceiling fixtures that almost resemble drying noodles and low seating areas contrasted by a high bar. The smells excite ur sense and ur mouth instantly starts to water as u see cooks hard at work in the open kitchen. U are shown to ur seat and ur eating station affords u all the amenities. There's chopstix napkins and wet naps as well as three different sauces (sriracha, hoisin, sweet vinegar soy) to use as u see fit. The menu has a simple layout with drinks on one side and food the other. The offerings are vietnamese & japanese with various asian influences. The main stars are the Baos (steamed split buns with unique fillings) Pho (traditional vietnamese soup) and Ramen ( traditional japanese noodle soup). We tried the KFC Bao/Chinese Spare Ribs/Pho Tai 🍜/ Ramen Tonkotsu The baos are some of the best I've had, light and airy bun with an extremely crisp fried chicken pickled carrots an cukes balancing with the kewpie(japanese style mayo) they are a marvel. The spare ribs had such intense flavor and a touch sweetness that I enjoyed, they we're rich and meaty and had just a touch of heat 👌. As for the Pho, these guys put a lot of love into these soup bases...the broth was so clear almost like a consommé it was a revelation. So delicate yet so complex at the same damn time! You can taste all the spices clearly the vegetables and meat were fresh and the noodles not over done. The Ramen as well was incredible! The complexity and richness of the broth was something to wonder over with each bite. The sauces complimented everything so well and the whole dish came together expertly. Thoroughly impressed with this place without a doubt a top 10 fave restaurant in the CT which would vault to top 5 IF they were to start making noodles in house. The only thing seperatin them from noodle house elitism.

This is my second time here and, although I'm pescatarian and there's only one fish dish here, General Tso's Shrimp with sticky rice (which i ate so fast that I didn't take a picture of it) it's a good one. It's not a large portion, which most of their food is, but it's good enough. I also got the Thai Curry Cauliflower, which is very good. It's not greasy nor overseasoned. Washed is down with this pretty Lotus Flower Bomb Sangria. I love the vibe here, great old school hip hop, like the good stuff, not the top 40 radio hits! If you're a true hip hop head, like me, you'll love it. On top of that, the interior aesthetic, as an interior designer, i also enjoy. It's the placement of studs along the particle board that makes it so dope! Love!

Disclaimer: we are from NYC, not SoNo, so our review may be irrelevant to you. We did not like this place. We stopped by last night around 6 PM and there was already a wait time of 30 minutes, so we went to Enchanted Szechuan instead. Today we decided to come by for lunch to try this highly reviewed restaurant. 1. We were confused by the menu. There were dishes from pretty much every Asian country - Chinese baos, Vietnamese pho, Japanese ramen, and Korean kimchi fried rice... There is not a single restaurant in the world I would trust to tackle all these completely different Asian cultures & flavors correctly. Seeing two cultures would throw me off, but four? Yikes. 2. Spicy miso was extremely subpar, tasted like instant ramen and powdery. The tonkatsu ramen was served with chicken broth instead and had a stick of butter on top of the bowl of ramen. Pork chashu on top was not tender and had a bit too much bite to it. The only thing I could taste was butter and the only thing I can compliment is the bowl selection for the ramen and pho. Pho was better but there were scraps of brisket in there leftover from the process of making the broth. Overall, sad. 3. Not a single Asian person in the staff to be seen. No wait, I think I saw one... But the chefs were definitely NOT Asian. Which explains the stick of butter and the instant ramen broth. 4. Servers were really busy. The restaurant was full but they had only two servers? We got water spilled on our table while they were pouring it in a hurry. Kinda sad that this is the best restaurant in the area.

Lets get the Pho out of the way - it's stunning. Like - Hanoi good. Seriously. It's destination-dining-worthy Pho. That is all. As for the rest of it, it's kinda hit or miss. • Good sake selection, and interesting beers • The KFC Bao is *stellar* • The wings are really good, if somewhat dry • The ramen is...not so good. Not bad, but not good either • The Kimchi-fried rice is very good, and *huge*. Be warned • The dumplings are a meal unto themselves. Good with beer, but...a lot Excellent service, friendly to a fault, rounds out the place. The bottom line - in this neck of the woods there aren't that many places that I'd actually *send* people to, but I'd send people here for the Pho

Great food! I have visited mecha at their other location. This one is as good or better than the other location. We had the KFC bao buns, Saigon spring rolls and BBQ ribs for appetizers. The bao buns are worth trying. I would avoid the spring rolls as it didn't have any flavor. The ribs were decent. For main course we have the spicy miso ramen and tonkotsu ramen. Ramen was excellent and this is what makes this restaurant awesome. The seating area was clean and the interior decor reflects the great food they serve here. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this place for their ramen.
