The lights are off, and so is the vibe.
Pulling up to Legacy Smokehouse, you’re greeted by… well, a house. A nice house. With a sign stuck in the yard like a real-estate sign. Technically, yes, there is signage. But does it help you find the entrance? Not at all. Finding the entrance felt like a choose-your-own-adventure novel.
Once inside (after guessing correctly which porch door was the magic one), we were met with what can only be described as Friday night in purgatory. No music. No crowd. No smells of BBQ glory wafting through the air. Just a few diners and a whole lot of silence. The patio outside sat empty — much like our expectations.
The first table we sat at inside wobbled like it had one too many bourbons, so we scooted to another spot in search of stability — emotional and physical.
Let’s talk food — because hope springs eternal, especially when smoked meats are involved.
I ordered the BBQ Turkey Salad, hoping for a fresh, smoky twist. What arrived looked… tired. It seemed pre-made, uninspired, and the turkey was dry — the kind of dry that makes you instinctively reach for a nearby garden hose. It was still tasty though. For the price, I expected something more gourmet, or at least dressed like it cared about being eaten.
Next up: the Texas Trinity Sandwich — four meats, one bun, no sides. The meat itself? Surprisingly good. Flavorful and well-cooked, and the pickles added a nice touch of tang. But for $15, we expected a bit more sandwich, or at least a buddy on the plate. Some fries? A lone potato chip? A handshake?
We also tried the coleslaw, which was really just cabbage in witness protection. No dressing, no seasoning, just crunchy existentialism in a bowl.
To their credit, they had a generous line-up of BBQ sauces.
PROS: -Meat was flavorful — the brisket and sausage were the real MVPs. -Lots of BBQ sauce options, even if they didn’t win our hearts. -Quiet space if you're trying to eat in peace… or secrecy.
CONS: -Ambience was non-existent — no one eating outside, no music, no vibes. -Salad felt pre-made and lacked any punch. -Coleslaw forgot to be slaw. -Sandwich was good, but small and overpriced with no sides. -No table service or check-ins — eat and vanish. -The place had barely any customers on a Friday night
Final Thoughts: Legacy BBQ has potential — but right now, it’s giving BB-Why? A little signage, some actual lights on outside, maybe a live band or any sign of life would go a long way. The meats were solid, but everything around them — from the sides to the service — needs attention.
Until then, we’re calling it “Legacy Lite” — all smoke, not enough fire.

Here’s a tidy list of responses...(AFTER I keep house)
Housekeeping: -Brevity is not a strength of mine, especially with this much information to transfer from my head to the page. -I clearly stated that I had no concept of the food, staff, and that I’m sure both are Excellent. -However, its a problem when one can’t try the food because of childish hours of operations.
Begin Tidy List: Owner: Please read all of it before slingshotting back counters to my points, please. This probably hasn’t registered yet, but I AM TRYING TO HELP YOU GET MORE CUSTOMERS.
1)! It would appear to me, but what the h*ll do I know, siphoning potential patrons from that fun list of BBQ joints you named, who eat later than 8pm on a Saturday...Simply seems like a good business model?
2)! This is also the 2nd Legacy Smokehouse in the Columbus area. Maybe they each have different owners, but one would surmise (again, maybe I’m just a complete jackass) That the hours, menu, recipes, method of answering the phone, vendors used, employee duties (can I stop now?)..would be the exact same? Like every other local restaurant w two locales (Cap City Diner, Marcella’s, et. al.).
3)! Your arguing w/ my constructive commentary, certainly doesn’t make it MORE likely I would come in (or anyone else who reads it, I’D GUESS?) and it really is LAUGHABLE that you close at 8Pm on Saturdays. Have you seen how many reviews below mine mention wait time or seeing people leaving bc of wait time? Why do YOU think that is? Hopefully you can connect the dots...ah hell I’ll do it- Your Restaurant Closes So Early That Everyone Basically Has a 2-3 Hour Window (5-8) to eat dinner at a reasonable time....but what if there were a 5 hour Window!?!?
4)! 8pm on a Saturday? You miss 50-70% of Buckeye Game Crowds. All Monday, Thursday & Sunday Night NFL games (which happen to be the best 51 matchups per season and 6 playoff games every year, ouch.
Thank You For Taking a Moment to Consider My Helpful Suggestions.
Start Original Review: I called for takeout at 8:30PM on a Saturday and they were closed. (This was before their hours were listed online) What kind of a BBQ Place closes at 8?
I’m sure the foods great and I’m sure everyone is wonderful who works there but my God are you trying to make money?
Please expand your hours so people who work later and on weekends can eat your food as well.
Also, I didn’t see cornbread on the menu, which is...
Read moreI went Legacy Smokehouse on a Saturday for lunch, I had been craving some authentic BBQ and after doing some research of best BBQ joints in CBus I landed on Legacy as it was in the top 5 on all lists I saw. First impressions were promising, you're greeted with the smell of smoking meat when you exit your car, the location is great and I enjoyed the converted home, although it is a little tight without the patio. Walking in I saw meat on trays lined with paper, everything was looking promising.
The menu is selective which is expected when you go to places that are supposed to smoke their meat daily. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more of a sampler choice to try two or three meats, there is only one that makes you get all their meat and is $25 which was a bit hefty for lunch. I got a sandwich that had their sausage, pulled pork, and chopped brisket on it and my wife got the haystack which was Mac and cheese with pulled pork and Fritos. I also got a sample size of the baked beans and we got a banana pudding and a drink. Overall it was almost $34.
The food was, I guess underwhelming in a word. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I just felt it was ok. The Mac and cheese itself had zero flavor, the baked beans were actually terrible, they had such an intense smoky flavor that I felt as though they had dropped them in the bottom of the smoker in the ashes and then served them. As far as the meat goes, the pulled pork was adequate, the jalapeno sausage was good, the chopped brisket was just ok, I suspect they take what isn't "slice quality" and chop it up to put on their sandwich.
Overall, I'd like to go back and just try some meat, I am willing to give it another shot and would probably just get the sampler to try. The atmosphere was nice and the people were friendly, I think I just made a mistake in my order and I haven't given up on this place being...
