My family and I went out to eat here this afternoon. Upon waiting to be sat, we asked to be seated at a regular table instead of a high top due to having a baby that requires a high chair. The restaurant had maybe 2 other tables with people, they were not busy at all. All the waitress had to do was clear off the regular table and we had no problem waiting. The bartender , Layla, looked at us with frustration and yelled from the bar “well, you are going to have to wait a minute because I already have the high top ready for you!!” With an aggressive tone and body language. She wasn’t even the one who was going to be waiting on us (thank god) so it did not affect her at all. Once we were sat, we noticed her complaining about us to regulars at the bar and they even looked at us and shook their head…..when all we did was ask for a different table. Later on, another party came in and sat at the high top table that was originally going to be for us (which was right behind our table). The bartender was setting them up when a customer from that party asked her husband to move and the bartender looked at the woman customer and rudely asked “are you talking to me!?” And the woman told her “no I was talking to my husband”. The bartender then said LOUDLY “oh because that table was not happy with this table!” (Talking about us to other customers purposefully so that we could hear). I was very observant of the bartender the entire time we were there because I felt uncomfortable from her. I noticed the way she had an attitude towards our waitress also. Riley was our waitress and she was great!! She took care of everything we needed and helped make our visit better from the grinch behind the bar. The 2 stars on my review are for Riley and the food. Layla is for the 3 empty...
Read moreI visited Gatsby's while on vacation for Motor City Comic Con across the street. I walked in not knowing what to expect and felt a bit intimidated by the full bar and being the only black person. I was about to leave when a regular literally came up to me and grabbed me by the arm and told me that he had a seat at the bar next to him and to enjoy myself. I wanted to refuse because I was still nervous but he insisted as he dragged me to the bar. lol. There I started to relax a bit and everyone ended up talking to me and being VERY welcoming and friendly. Then I met Lindsay the bartender, who was SUPER amazing. I had only planned to stay a short time but it ended up being so much fun that I stayed quite a while and had a blast, even convincing the people who had been engaging me to take a group pic with me. Lindsay asked me was I coming back the next day. I told her I wasn't sure but perhaps. Courtney was another bartender there who was awesome! Long story short ... the next day I was back at the bar (not to Lindsay's surprise - LOL) and ended up meeting another nice group and getting a group pic with them as well. And I had a second day of fun and good drinks! One more day left on vacation I came back a 3rd time. It was slower this day but the people who were there were equally as nice and I ended up playing darts with a nice gentleman and then meeting other regulars who asked me to sit by them. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BAR if you like meeting nice people and having good drinks! I only wish this could be my regular bar. But I'm considering coming...
Read moreRight a minute off the highway and open late! An incredibly wonderful place! We stopped for a late night dinner on the way driving home . Extremely efficient, personable service. The food is really good. The locals are there and the atmosphere is comforting. If you're on a long road trip or short road trip, stop by Gatsby's! Side notes: one of our kids is a vegetarian and the brussel sprouts were really good and they very efficiently had no problem with removing the bacon. Attention to detail from the servers is evident. And although this might sound silly, it is kind of important, the restrooms are clean and very nice!. For just a random Google of restaurants that are open late and close to the highway Gatsby's is a hidden gem. Tired and weary? this is the place for you. Nice local place. Good food. You'll be glad you went! (Update: 2 years later: Still wonderful! The waitress Catarina was really great! I had the crock of chilli with cheese onions and sour cream. Yum! The brussel sprouts are AMAZING! Thank...
