Made reservations online through Open Table. We arrived a few minutes prior to 6:30p on this Saturday and it took them a few minutes to get us seated. Inside was pretty white and loved listening to the older local music! It took the waitress a few minutes before she took our order: the New Zealand Mussels in curry were super delicious, but it was a bit too spicy for me - I coughed a couple times 😅, Grahamburger with Brie and fries was also yummy (good size burger too) and the Hawaiian Mango pizza was also delicious. We were stuffed and couldn’t order any dessert. They have a small bakery to the right of the hostess desk that had some delicious looking sweets and a few pastries. 2/25/23 - came here for lunch, about 130p. Got seated outside. We ordered two surf n turfs, one with poke and the other with shrimp (they were out of catch of the day) and subbed for ulu mash instead of white rice. I got the shrimp tempura tacos which includes fries. We also got the bacon cheeseburger and a pepperoni pizza! Everything was delicious! At the bakery counter, they didn’t have and baked rolls today, but we got some taro rolls to go.

We had a long day of traveling around and decided to come back to the PCC for a temple tour and dinner. We decided to eat at Pounders since the kids had little coupons from their booklets they got at the PCC. There was a 30-minute wait , and we were happy to wait. I had been craving a burger and fries, and after looking at the reviews of this place, I thought this would be perfect. We got our table. Our waitress was so great! Happy, respectful, polite and professional! We put in our order and waited for our food. 45 mins after we put in our food order our waitress comes to tell us that they ran out of fries! Not gna lie, I was upset. Our waitress was more them apologetic and felt really bad. They had enough fries for the kids meals just not the adults ones. And all I wanted was a burger and fries. So I did ask for a discount since the order was put in 45 mins ago and we were just told about the no fries thing. They did offer mashed potatoes, but none of us wanted them. So we were given a 20% discount which was nice. I would come back and visit but will make sure we have a reservation. Again our waitress was amazing, atmosphere was great just disappointed in the food.

Firstly, our server Shareef was wonderful, he was friendly and efficient (honestly the only reason I gave 2 stars). Our food unfortunately told a different story. I was so excited when I found out that Graham Elliot is the executive chef here, being a fan of his from Master Chef Jr, I made a reservation over a month in advance of traveling to Oahu. As for the food, the wedge salad was a sloppy plate of bagged romaine lettuce, with a pile of unripened papaya on the side, the bacon was the highlight. The margarita pizza seemed as though it was made earlier in the day and not even reheated in the brick oven, it was soggy and not cooked in the middle, and it had sliced beefsteak tomatoes, not traditional Roma, it was very off-putting. The short rib was just okay, the meat was cooked well, a little under seasoned and completely drowning in BBQ sauce. The special surf and turf was absolutely a salt bomb overload, the little seaweed asparagus looking things tasted like they were plucked directly from the ocean, the steak was cooked well, but also salt overload. The entire meal was disappointing to say the least, especially because my expectations were set too high.

First thing to notice, this restaurant serves no alcohol. The reason, you suddenly realize is its association with the enormous LDS Church hub of Laie. The servers seem to be outsourced from all over the world, unusual to say the least. Ok fine. The overall feel is like a restaurant at a Polynesian theme park and the exploitative corporate vibe feels like cultural appropriation at such a daring level that it is shocking. Someone needs a serious rethink about how this fits in the modern world. The food was not inexpensive, but it was miserable. Nothing seemed fresh or locally sourced or whatever they claim. Drab Ahi Tuna salads over wilted mixed greens were par for the course. Kids couldn't stomach the pizza (pizza for crying out loud!) I couldn't have gotten out of this overall creepy and gross restaurant any faster. All the reviews on Google making it seem a reasonable choice are shocking considering what I received there. I think the server could tell as they asked if we wanted to provide a feedback form. No thank you. Not giving you any more of my time or energy. Demoralizing meal.

I appreciated the atmosphere of Pounders, the bakery was cute, and staff was friendly. I really like reading about their mission to help young chefs, so they had a featured burger from one of their upcoming chefs, which is what I ordered. The food looked good when it came out. However, with that being said, I was a bit disappointed in a few things: -our waitress, while friendly only came to our table once-it wasn’t that busy and there were a lot of staff. Our drinks never got refilled and we were quite thirsty from a busy day. -Our crab cakes were cold in the middle (they did have good flavor though); we didn’t attempt to send them back, so that was on us. -The food was good, but nothing stood out as amazing, especially for the price. The flavoring was ok on some things, but not on others. If you’re looking to have a consistent dining experience, and want good food, I would throw Pounders out as an option. I do appreciate what they’re doing, and I can get behind that, so if someone was going to be in the area, I would let them know to check it out.

Pounders was a nice dining experience at the Polynesian Cultural Center. The place was clean and well organized, with plenty of seating available. Their menu had lots of options, but I simply stuck with a salad and some desserts. The tropical salad comes with avocado and papaya served on a bed of Pūpūkea Gardens mixed greens from Oahu’s north shore, mixed with Ho Farms tomatoes & parmesan cheese. It was quite light and refreshing. If I were to come back, I would like to try their kalua pork sandwich! Next time hopefully. On the sweet side, I had their mango cheesecake slice, the white chocolate coconut cookie, and their 7 layer village bar. All of them were great, but the mango cheesecake was fabulous! Rich, creamy, and soft textures, and the mango flavoring was on point! Definitely a must do if you plan a visit! I do recommend this place, enjoy!
