Sunnyside — Restaurant in Oʻahu

I’ve lived on island for over 2 years, but this was my first time eating at the cafe. I was super excited because of the good reviews, especially regarding the hash browns. 😂 We got here & it took 15 minutes for us to have our vaccination cards checked so we could be seated. We didn’t mind because we seen they were a little busy so we just waited patiently. Once we were able to sit, we went to look at the menu to place our order. I’m unsure of the name of the individual who took our order, but she was BEYOND RUDE. She got frustrated that we weren’t sure what we wanted yet so she just walked us off. We ignored that & just continued to place our order. My mother asked for a fountain drink & the lady asked what size. My mom tried to ask what sizes they had & the lady proceeded to snap toward us, “Well the smaller one is medium & the larger one is large.” (Even though we hadn’t even seen the cups.) Once again we just ignored her rudeness & completed placing our order. I paid for our meal & she tossed my card & receipt at me. I said thank you & went to sit down, & she snapped, “That’s not all of it.” She then slammed the other receipt on the counter at me & walked me off when I was trying to ask if I needed to sign the merchant copy. We got our food brought to us by Luci, the owner, & she was so kind. She’s the only reason we stayed to finish eating because she was so nice from the start! While eating, my mom & I were sitting facing the kitchen. Since we were facing that way, the lady who took our order believed we were looking at her & started YELLING at us to stop looking at her. We tried to explain that we weren’t looking at her, but she just proceeded to yell at us to not “stare at her.” It was beyond disrespectful & I’m very disappointed because Luci & her husband were VERY kind to us. He even brought us a newspaper in case we wanted to look at it while we waited for our food. The food was good, but because of the lady who took our order, we unfortunately will not return.

it’s fast and affordable and free refills the servers are really sweet they know me as makana and there waffles are great there pancakes are great and really fluffy i wanted to leave a review and i am only 8 years old

Edit: My son loves this place! He loves it so much he took to Google to leave a review! 🤣 Everyone here is so sweet and service is super fast! Food is always ONO and you just cannot go wrong with any of the choices.

Don’t forget to leave room for the pie because it’s MAYJAH♥️ … (according to my son). Tips for heading to this spot - there is a parking lot in the front and it fills up quickly! Come around 10am if you can that’s usually when we are there because everyone else is off at work. Also, bring some cash to stick in the tip jar (optional) as tipping on the card is not possible.

Small joint. Very fair prices!!! Not much parking in the lot but plenty of street parking. Service is pretty quick and it seemed most of the guests preferred to go orders. The inside could fit 8-10 small parties but there were a couple of tables outside if you wanted to dine in the fresh air. I’m 100% sure that when there’s a game going, you won’t be able to get seating but I went on a random Saturday* looking for bfast and lunch plates so it was empty except the to-go window. You can order ahead and pickup or order at the outside window. I just loved the convenience and how quickly I received my order. The food was fresh and hot and the burger was delicious. There seemed to be no salt on my fries so if you want, make sure to request it! To go plates is a paper plate covered in foil so bear that in mind if you’re getting a to go plate and traveling far.
