Busy busy busy is what this place is haha. There was a line outside on a Friday morning, and even longer lines when lunch hour was approaching! Note: If you order online, make sure it's for the day and time you want. I tried to place an online order but the order wouldn't be ready till 2 days later lol so that's why I had to go in in person to order my food! However, the line moved at a decent speed. I think I waited for maybe 20 mins? Once I got to the counter, the service was very quick as there were a lot of staff working together for different section of the counter.
What should you get? That's the big question as there are so so many things to choose from. I highly recommend their shrimp stick with sauce (without sauce would be fine too) as that was one of the most delicious shrimp thing I've had! You won't regret it. For the poke, I loved their furikake salmon and the ahi limu. The fish was fatty and smooth without the chewy tendons. Both flavors were seasoned well without being too salty. However, I would avoid their wasabi miso tako (octopus) and their sesame tako as well. They're both overly sweet that they tasted kind of disgusting. The tako also wasn't very tender. I couldn't finish it.
The is a place where locals and tourists go which explains why it's so busy! It's definitely NOT a hype. It's legit. If you're in Waipahu, do yourself a favor and give it a shot if you haven't...
Read moreMy local friends recommended this place to me, and I knew I had to get some mind-blowing poke while I was in town. As soon as we landed and picked up our rental car, this was the first food stop on our list.
Small but popular local joint, everyone says it's the best poke around. They have some pre-packed meals ready to go because they get pretty busy during working hours. All the locals are pretty familiar with how everything is run but as a visitor, you can definitely feel displaced hearing the locals talk.
There isn't a giant menu that lists everything. All the poke is kept cool on ice and prices are displayed for each kind. They sell by pound, but there also have poke bowls - we ordered those through a piece of paper.
My favorites: Spicy Tuna California Crunchy Garlic Limu Deluxe Musubi
If I could eat there every single day for the rest of my life, I would! It's just so good! I always got my poke bowls on sushi rice and added the spicy mayo and unagi sauce on top. Some other items I wish I had tried were the garlic fried chicken and the ahi musubi.
Looking forward to coming back to the island for more of these ono kine grindz!
*Parking is decent, never had an issue finding any. It is busier during lunch hours and since it's a small shop, the line can be...
Read moreWe held our wedding in June 2025 at Kualoa Ranch. I learned about Tanioka's from a bar tender who recommended their poke. When my husband and I started planning our wedding, I found out that they cater. Before we booked, we did a tasting with them, which was a prefixed menu and takeout only. We were blown away. Everything we tasted was delicious! We had the braised short ribs, tofu poke salad, ahi poke over rice, mochiko chicken, and furikake hoki. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was so good, we confirmed and had that same menu at our wedding. Tanioka's also offered appetizers that we had passed around during cocktail hour including ahi bites, teri meatballs, and poke over rice. During dinner, we added on their prime rib carving stations, and finally as our late night bite, we had mini spam musubi. Some highlights from our guests said: "this was the BEST food I've ever had a wedding!" "WHO catered your wedding? We need to have that again!" "There wasn't a bite I hated or didn't like on my plate." Thank you team Tanioka's for being the best addition to our vendor team and our special day! 11/10...
