Tanuki Sushi — Restaurant in Oʻahu

Quality over quanity. The restaurant was very clean, and had sparse decorations. Tables seat no more than two or four without rearrangement, so try to make a reservation. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone that would like to eat very good sushi in a casual, relaxed environment.

Everything we got was delicious, from the specials to the basic rolls. The fish felt and tasted super fresh. (Dishes in order) We got the hamachi carpaccio, the hamachi fish of the day (cooked and so delicate), the king salmon sashimi fish of the day, a California roll (this is the first time I noticed sesame seeds on this roll), and a rainbow roll.

The staff was kind, responsive, and fun to talk with. It helped that we arrived later in the day, so towards the end we were just chatting. I recommend ordering from the fish of the day menu based on what you like--if you don't know which would match your tastes, they will politely help you figure out...

Wonderful little sushi restaurant with high quality fish and friendly, upbeat service. Walked in and felt like I’ve been going there forever! Food takes a bit to be prepared but only because they take the time to make everything perfect. I recommend ordering one or two things at a time and enjoy the experience and the staff. They love what the do and they’re very proud (rightly so) about what they serve. Definitely bring your own wine (really cheap glass fee...like 4$ for a bottle) and make reservations so you are guaranteed a table. Excellent sushi restaurant in Kaneohe!! I was so impressed by how everything was so fresh & delicious. Ordered the Rainbow roll, unagi 8 piece maki, & the spicy tuna 8 piece maki.

My 3-year old had limited options since it's really only sushi (nothing really fried or cooked)...so we got him a miso soup & a side of rice. He was stoked!!

There's a very small parking lot with only a few stalls. We ended up parking in the residential area just a bit up the street.

We'll definitely try Tanuki again... Next time, maybe we'll go for...
