During my recent visit to Zippy's Kaneohe, I embarked on a culinary journey that showcased the restaurant's diverse menu and attentive service. Eager to experience the flavors of the Hawaiian cuisine, I initially planned to indulge in a classic breakfast featuring waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, accompanied by a steaming cup of hot chocolate. However, I was informed that both the hot chocolate and strawberries with whipped cream were unavailable at the time. Though initially disappointed, the accommodating staff quickly provided alternative breakfast options and suggested some enticing lunch specials.
Opting for a change of plans, I decided to explore the lunch offerings instead. I settled on a clubhouse sandwich paired with fries and Portuguese soup. This hearty combination promised to satisfy my appetite and provide a taste of the local flavors.
As I waited for my meal, I couldn't help but admire the inviting ambiance of Zippy's Kaneohe. The restaurant exuded a cozy vibe, with comfortable seating arrangements and tasteful decor. The staff continued to impress with their attentive service, ensuring that I felt welcomed and valued as a customer.
When my order arrived, I was delighted by the presentation and aroma of the food. The clubhouse sandwich was a towering masterpiece, featuring layers of roasted turkey, crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, juicy tomato, and creamy mayonnaise, all sandwiched between slices of toasted bread. The accompanying fries were golden and crispy, perfectly complementing the savory flavors of the sandwich.
The Portuguese soup, a local favorite known for its rich and flavorful broth, exceeded my expectations. Packed with tender chunks of meat, hearty vegetables, and fragrant spices, it was a comforting delight that warmed both body and soul.
With each bite, I savored the harmonious blend of textures and flavors, from the crunchy bacon to the tender turkey and the hearty broth of the soup. The meal was a true celebration of Hawaiian cuisine, showcasing the diverse culinary influences that make it so unique.
Throughout the dining experience, the exemplary service continued to shine. The staff were attentive and accommodating, ensuring that my meal was enjoyable from start to finish. Despite the initial hiccup with the unavailable breakfast items, Zippy's Kaneohe proved to be a culinary gem, offering delicious food and top-notch service that left a lasting impression.
In conclusion, my experience at Zippy's Kaneohe was a memorable one. From the warm ambiance to the delectable food and attentive service, it was a true delight for the senses. Read moreCame here for a quick lunch before going to the sandbar after it was mentioned to us by our Uber driver. He said it’s not something to rave about, just a regional chain, but we thought it sounded cool!
We thought it was interesting that this spot had half of a quick dining area and a sit-down area. The cashiers were super duper friendly.
Saimin - This was inexpensive and quite filling! It had a good amount of noodles and the piping hot broth came separately. The fish cake and char siu were tasty. Since it seemed little, I added a chicken katsu. The cashier said she made sure to put it separately so the chicks stayed crispy.
Chicken katsu - My stand-alone katsu was around $5-6 but turning it into its own combo meal with rice and mac salad is the way to go. My friend got 3 pieces for $12. We expected a dense, greasy fried food but it was actually very light and thin! It was a lot better than I expected. Its accompanying sauce is more sour than other katsu places I’ve tried. We were dying for vegetables at this point so I ate all the cabbage underneath lol.
Korean fried chicken - This was delicious! The boneless pieces don’t come in medium-sized chunks. I liked their crunch.
Loco moco - This was hot, flavorful, and honestly tasted better than some other places I’ve tried. The egg was fried perfectly.
I wish I tried the oxtail soup but it’s pretty pricey. Zippy’s fulfilled our needs before our...

The sautéed mushrooms and onions dish was an absolute staple, and they had a jukebox that my young mind was fascinated with.
Now? It's a place that I actively avoid.
The food has exponentially gotten worse. It is painfully clear that the cooks don't care about the food quality. The cashiers always seem exhausted and over it. The servers don't check in or refill the drinks worth an even 10% tip.
My experience today was spending $40 on a burger w/fries and a 2 meat, 2 egg, and 2 scoops of rice breakfast plate, and the tip that wasn't earned.
The meat and eggs on the breakfast plate was overcooked to almost burnt, the rice was hard and undercooked. The burger patty was incredibly small with incredibly bitter lettuce, and fries you could tell came frozen that got cold and stale / hard within 2-3 minutes of arriving at the table.
They don't even serve the Orange Bang Shake anymore, which was their 1 saving grace.
The substandard burger and fries alongside 4 pieces of meat on a measly 2 undercooked scoops of rice came out to $32 and change.
I doubt I'll eat at Zippy's, or at least this...
