This restaurant has become a local favorite, so I was excited to visit and see if their breakfast lived up to the hype. As is often the case in Hawaiʻi, the breakfast portions are generous and feel more like a full brunch.
Parking
Finding a parking spot proved to be a bit of a challenge right outside the restaurant, but we found plenty of street parking just a block away. We were seated within a few minutes and were immediately impressed by how attentive the staff was. Our host quickly cleared and bussed a table for us, and our drink orders were taken right away.
Drinks
We ordered two green teas, and our server made sure our mugs were always full. While the service was great, I was a little disappointed to see that they used a generic Kirkland brand tea. It would be a nice touch to see a local tea purveyor on the menu to further elevate the dining experience. Food
I've dedicated my life to cooking, so I'm a stickler when it comes to ordering. I wanted to try what I thought were the most notable dishes on the menu: the crab cake benedict and the ube pancakes. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes, and both plates were beautifully presented.
The crab cake benedict was a delicious take on a French classic, with a Hawaiian twist. The flavors were mostly on point; however, the hollandaise was a little more sour than I would have liked. The potatoes were served hot, but I thought the crab cake could have been a little crispier to add more texture to the dish.
The ube pancakes were nice to see . The vibrant purple hue of the pancakes and ube butter was impressive, topped with a delicate dusting of powdered sugar. As a professional, I know that ube, a purple yam, is most interesting for its texture and color. While the presentation was great, the flavor was average and overshadowed by the powerful color.
Overall experience
Our dining experience was swift and efficient. The two servers and one host worked together to run the entire dining room, and we were presented with our check soon after we finished eating. For $51 plus tip, it was a fair price for a good meal and great service.
Overall, this restaurant offers a satisfying meal with quick and attentive service. While there were a few minor details in the food that could be improved, the experience was pleasant and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a...
Read moreThe absolute worst breakfast and waste of my $100.00. First off my family of 5 went,3 kids,my husband and I, and we had to squeeze on a little 4 man table that should be for 3 people it was so small. We ordered the loco moco fried rice to start the fried rice was made of shoyu and rice with a sprinkle of green onions chopped, rice was like oatmeal which means they not cooking it right. The meat wasn't even a patty it was smaller the McDonald's burger for 12.95- no flavor to add. Next my husband ordered a side of corned beef hash which they charge 8.95, and it was a slop of the can, could have bought 3 cans at the store and had more than a mushy scoop of it. Third the buttermilk pancakes were fluffy but no flavor no matter how much syrup you put. Fourth the Denver omelette was alright but you needed to add seasoning cause again no Flavor....last was the fruit punch for 3.95- its malolo syrup. The only good food we ordered was the banana pancakes which was good. Oh forgot bacon was crispy but tasted like oil not that bacon flavor. Now service....the servers were ok not too friendly just there to get paid. At no point did they ask how was everything. And paying at the register the 2 Asian ladies just wanna take your money and walk away you can tell they are all about money and no customer service. This is the 1st time in 20 years we ate their and to be honest it wasn't the same as when our grandmas used to take us. Go elsewhere if I were you, we went to the kaneohe location and it sucks, mcdonalds has more flavor...
Read moreWe were hangry and excited to know there was a pancake house in Kaneohe, so decided to give it a try even tho Google maps said the restaurant was busier than usual. We arrived to find there were only 2 cars on what would typically be a busy peak holiday. Hmm.
We were greeted by a woman chewing food with her mouth open as she pointed to a table and told us to sit (still smacking away on whatever she was eating) and promptly brought us our menus. The menu items seemed very pricey for a restaurant of that caliber so I ordered steak which ended up being comparable to the omelet for around $20..
Atmospheres was grim and all you can hear were the staff in back talking really loud. At one point a server sneezed so loud I thought the windows would blow out then our food arrived. I was thinking, to myself, “God, I hope she covered her mouth”.
Food was served promptly and tasted OK, but def not worth what we paid even with the free side of germs. When we spread butter on his pancake the syrup reacted to the butter like some kind of X-file as if it was alive moving away from the butter. I’ve never seen syrup do that before.
The server must have asked me for more coffee like 6 times even tho it was still full which clearly meant I wasn’t enjoying it.
Then the server let out a loud belch burp in back that echoed in the entire dining room. That’s when we decided to leave. I ended up paying almost $60 too much for a disgusting experience. One customer ahead of us bellowed that he was never coming back there again....
