Dos Primos Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in O’Fallon

Given that we are from the Aurora/Joliet, IL area, where there is a significant Mexican-American population and several excellent Mexican restaurants, I can"t believe this place gets such good reviews. My husband and I went there for our first time tonight, and we were served a sloppy plate of food that tasted like nothing more than salt and grease. We got the steak tacos, and the steak, itself, was crunchy and bland. The food was bad, but that wasn't the only problem. It took a long time for them to bring out the chips and salsa, but it took even longer for our waitress to take our drink order. When she finally returned with the drinks, she brought my husband a water with lemon, instead of the iced tea he ordered. When our food came out, we could see all kinds of greasy fingerprints all over the top of our plates. If that wasn't bad enough, the steak tacos were served without anything other than a bunch of iceberg lettuce and a pile of tasteless white cheese. I ordered a To Go queso and chips for $5; I was told salsa would be included. When I checked out for my purchase, the waitress told me it would be $7.30 - when I questioned why it was $2 more than it should be she told me it was tax and shrugged her shoulders. When I questioned again and told her there was no way tax was $2, she laughed in my face and walked away. Upon reviewing the sales tax rate for O'Fallon, and the state sales tax rate, the most tax should have been on a $5 purchase would be around $0.50. I believe the waitress in question is overcharging customers and pocketing the extra. I will not return to this restaurant, nor recommend it to anyone in the future. My friend and I stopped in this evening for some nachos supreme and a few drinks to watch the hockey game. Go Blues! The nachos we're great! Our food came out quickly, fresh, and hot; it was delicious. Our drink, however, we're very weak and over priced at 7 bucks each. The place is very clean and tastefully decorated. The restroom was spotless. Although I got a bit annoyed when they started running the floor cleaning machine at 7:30 pm when they don't even close until 10 pm.
